A very bad night for Kevin McCarthy. Sad!
Also the look of smug admiration on Kamala Harris’ face as he sprung the trap was priceless. Its really the contrast of the two that makes it.
I would have really loved to see the camera pan over to MTG when he told everyone that they had unanimity and they all stood up and clapped or risk being seen to hate seniors. I bet the sourness on her face curdled milk in a three mile radius.
McCarthy: Jeez. I knew three weeks ago this job wasn’t going to be fun but I thought it would be my own side causing trouble, not this geezer.
This probably deserves its own thread, but hasn’t Biden in many ways been more successful than Obama? It could be recency bias, but I feel like Biden has achieved a ton, even if someone totally disagrees with his policies. He has always been such a good guy to work with, I half expect him to get the House to pass things even though they are Republican.
Not surprising, given Biden’s extensive experience in Congress. And being a white guy, of course.
Biden is also dealing with a less disciplined, if more radical on average, R congressional cohort than Obama had.
Said another way, there are more cracks in the R facade now than in Obama’s time. A skilled pol can make gains in an environment like that. Small gains, but gains nonetheless.
I don’t know about the white guy part, but he was famously well liked by his colleagues. Helpful.
I feel, as an old white lady, I have no right to hold forth from my white privilege area, but I do think there are many POC in our govt who are great leaders. A few are not, of course, but not bc they are POC…but bc they are humans who are doing what they see others do, seizing power in whatever manner they see fit. I do think our VP is a lady of intelligence, dignity, and power. I have read that her office is at sixes and sevens, but if she were a Republican white man, no one would point it out. I thought Biden did an amazing job, and I am happier than ever he was my choice (he would have been, in any case, my detestation of Trump being beyond measure).
I’m sorry, I didn’t understand that spot. Why is the underscoring ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’, because all I can think of is the lyrics and the message of the song? (Did they license the use of that music?) Who are they saying got fooled the first time? Who did the fooling of whom? They seem to be Republicans who approve of Biden, at least by the end of it.
US politics are beyond me, most of the time…
It’s the same for us. And we live here.
It’s a David Caruso / CSI: Miami reference. Each episode started with the song, and as the murder of the week is discovered, Caruso makes a “cool” one-liner while putting on his sunglasses to the “YEAHHHHHH!!!” part of the song. That’s also why the pixelated sunglasses appear on Biden in the Lincoln Project video.
This link is supposed to start at 46 seconds. If not, skip to there to see David Caruso in all his glory.
Pence has been subpoenaed by special counsel Jack smith!
The question is: what will Jack Smith do to those who ignore subpoenas, as so many Republicans have already done?
Someone has ignored a subpoena from DOJ? I’m not aware of that. Many blew off subpoenas from the January 6th Committee, but I haven’t heard that anyone has ignored a DOJ subpoena. Fought them in the courts, yes. But not blown them off. Do you know of some?
Blow off a DOJ subpoena and the US Marshals Service will carry you bodily to federal pre-trail detention. They are not nice people.
Exactly.
None of this belongs in this thread, however.
I would answer no to the second par of this sentence but I agree with the first part, so I created one here.
You’re awesome. Thanks.
Ooh, good point - it’s been Congressional subpoenas that have been blown off thus far.
