extremism in the pursuit of extremism is no surprise.

There’s a quote I’ve tried to google but no luck so far. It’s something to the effect of “it’s hard to hear the calm voice of reason over the screams of fanaticism”. Anybody know the quote or who said it?

Multiple signs:
We are all individuals!

One sign:
I’m not.

Put that on a sign – in a small-ish font

The crowd interview I wish I could give, inspired by this thread:

Interviewer: “Excuse me, sir, can you tell us what brought you here today?”

Me: “I originally came to Washington for the sanity rally but the problem with moderation is that you can only do it for so long before it stops being moderation, whereas fear is the gift that just keeps on giving. Fear is an integral part of our national identity. Was it not President Franklin Delano Roosevelt himself who once said 'The only thing we have to fear is fear itself - and Muslims, immigrants and bears”?"

Interviewer: "Bears?

Me: "Bears. This country has become remarkably complacent about the threat of wild animal attacks. This is why we must elect Sarah Palin to the White House. Do we want to fall behind Russia in the Wild Animal Containment race? Vladimir Putin has been out there for years, firing crossbows at whales and wrestling tigers. Why isn’t the President doing that? It’s a disgrace. Are we not a nation with a proud history of slaughtering animals? I mean, can you see Barack Obama shooting bears and riding around shirtless on a white stallion? Whereas I could totally see Sarah Palin doing that - shooting bears and riding…around…sh… "

<pause>

“Would you excuse me? I need to go back to my hotel room for a few minutes. For something. Alone…”

I’d have:
‘EVERYTHING’S GOING TO BE OK!’
perhaps with ‘calm down’ or ‘don’t panic’ on the other side.

But sadly I live on a different continent.

I Still Like Ike!!

or

McCain wasn't born in America and I don't care.
No, seriously, he wasn't. Look it up.

liars and taliban and bears
oh my!

Edward R. Murrow had a standard reply to anyone who criticized him. He would send them a postcard saying:

Dear Sir or Madam: You may be right.

I might use that for my sign.

What would Craig Kilborn Do?

I kind of agree with this. I imagine there are still a lot of people out there who don’t realize Colbert’s playing a character on his show.

My Sign:

I’M SLIGHTLY MIFFED
AND I’M ONLY GOING TO TAKE IT
FOR A LITTLE WHILE LONGER!

**If You Can’t Say Anything Nice About Somebody…

you can at least not compare them to Hitler

(unless of course they’re Hitler…
and even then it’s redundant)**

Or in the tradition of the John 3:16 signs at football games

Matthew 5:22

or

**
That verse for those who haven’t memorized the Bible in its entirety yet

and

Basically damns most Christian Right members to hell.

That’s Matthew 6:5 (somehow didn’t add it).

(Though personally I won’t believe Jesus was the Messiah until I see his birth certificate.)

For gays against hyperbole in politics there’s

FAGS
HATE
GODwin

And for the once powerful but so-overquoted-(and usually misquoted)by-such-Cassandra-complex-wielding-drama-queens-that-it’s-been-neuteredMartin Niemöller quote crowd:

**FIRST THEY CAME FOR THE COMMUNISTS—

And you know damned good and well you’d have said “They’re over there…”**

or

**“Then they came for the Jews…”

and you weren’t there andthere’s nothing comparable between that and raising taxes 3% on people who earn 6 figures so shut the fuck up about it because you’re insulting people it affected.**

If I get the opportunity to go, this is going to be the sign I wield. As a matter of fact, I just might have t-shirts made.

LOL capitalist swine

You’re on a roll my brother. Even Liberals hate Godwin would be good because so many label liberals as god god haters

Or First they came for the Socialists.

very funny.

Consider this stolen…um…borrowed. You can have them back when I’m done.

Smoldering awesomeness.
