Hrrrmmmm. Wise you seem. Put your finger on it, you have.
Much credit have you given Stoidela I think.
Not deliberate her behavior is.
Correct you are in essence.

Needs2Know!!!
Sure…I called her a cunt so I must be a physically abusive person in real life. Take hike.
When I want your advice on what insults are appropriate I will give you a call.
Oooookay. Here we go, boys and girls.
<xeno holds his nose and reaches deep into the first page of the thread, feels around, pulls out a tiny straw creature reeking of indignation and tosses it to the SDMB floor, where it crawls around, mewling pathetically>
Exhibit A
Freedom2 paraphrases Stoidela in a slightly disingenuous manner:
Here’s a link to the definition of “straw man” Freedom2. If you still don’t think it describes what you did, well, I won’t waste any more of your time.
You may not be physically abusive but I’d be willing to bet that your dick is tiny and you couldn’t find a woman’s clitoris with a road map.

I think we’ve all learned a valuable lesson here today.
In fighting ignorance, just because your right doesn’t mean you can become ignorant. Otherwise you become what you fight, and that’s not right, it’s ignorant.

You have learned well, Grasshopper…

Nice try but no cigar.
From your link:
I was not trying to attack stoidela based on that post. She threw out a challenge to just post whatever we wanted and tack her name on to the end of it. I responded with a PARODY of stoidela’s writing.
Feel free to try again.
Ahhh! Thank you Grasshopper…the teacher often learns from the student…
I take it back Freedom… I’m sure your pee-pee is huge or at least adequate. And you very likely no more directionally challenged than the average guy.
Needs2know…Why is it that men are so good at reading road maps? Because it’s so much easier for them to picture an inch as equaling a mile.
Hey TheVoiceOfReason:
The following
is my line, and I’ll thank you not to quote it without attribution.
See, I get to say all this stuff about Southerners because I am one. And one of those poor benighted rural Southerners to boot! (Or at least I was raised as one.)
Besides which, I don’t see anything negative about what I said.
Freedom2: So the fact that Stoidela invited you to build a straw man makes your straw man legit? Look, the deliberate misrepresentation of your opponent’s statements in the middle of an argument, intended as yours was to show the perceived weaknesses of your opponent’s argument, is, regardless of its humorous intent, <drumroll> a STRAW MAN. Call it parody if you like; you used it to portray her position inaccurately.
Shall we look at some other comments of yours?
and
and
Can you say Straw-idela?
xeno:
I could not care less that Stoidela or anyone else is a Democrat or Republican; or supports Bush or Gore winning this election. Other than for the purposes of debate. That’s politics.
What I object to is her repeated assertion that rural Americans, southern Americans and Republican-supporting Americans are less sophisticated than the urban liberal group she (surprise, surprise) just happens to be a member of.
Misrepresented her words? And you accuse me of making statements based on a lack of logic, but she just has “political tunnel vision?”
Please.
Whose partisanship is clouding whose judgement?
Xenophon:
Hmmm. I might be able to use that.
[li]It’s easy to pick apart many of Stoidela’s statements. I’ve disagreed with alot of them here. Are you upset because I didn’t foam at the mouth when I disagreed with her?[]“Political tunnel vision” is a pretty fair description for someone who can’t see the self-serving machinations of her favored candidate, but can see them with brilliant clarity when they’re employed by the other party.[]I’d consider charges that my judgement is clouded more seriously if they weren’t coming from someone who’s displayed extreme contempt for opposing political points of view in so many recent threads.
[/li]
sigh
Show me precisely where Stoid asserted that “Republican-supporting Americans” were less sophisticated. (I’m aware that she considers Republican conservatives self-serving and venal; that’s a different -and contrary- argument.)
Her assertion was that, according to statistics (for which she did not provide a link), most Americans approved of Clinton’s policies, that they thought Gore would probably continue Clinton’s policies, but since many of these people instead voted for Bush, they based their decision on Al’s association with Bill, and on their perception that George W. is more morally upright. She went on to assert that this “unsophisticated” attitude is more prevalent in the South and in rural areas of the North than it is in urban centers.
You, Milossarian, inferred from this that she meant Republican = Unsophisticated. I inferred from this that she meant Southern and Rural = Unsophisticated. My interpretation is supported by Stoidela’s citation of an unverified statistic that people who said they would’ve voted for Gore on the issues instead voted for Bush. Your interpretation is not supported by the context of her remarks.
While I consider the general lack of sophistication outside of urban centers to be a truism (possibly a vanishing distinction, as yosemitebabe pointed out, but still present in our society), I find the rest of her line of logic silly, and I don’t think it’ll hold up to a critical evaluation.
But she laid down the logic underlying her conclusions. You just stuck out your tongue and called her names.
Xenophon:
I’ve been arguing with this person for a while, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard her say anything as… sophisticated as what you’ve written. I mean look at the thread titles “They through away 19,000 votes, Gore actually won!” or “Why I dont trust Republicans/Conservatives.”
I think you’re reaching.
Oh? This is the passage I was interpreting:
Now, I’m not a professional editor, but I feel I’ve summarised Stoidela’s argument pretty fairly and accurately. If you can show me where I’ve contradicted or mischaracterized her remarks, please do.
Well, I thought I would register and join in the fray. There are many of us who usually just read and stay out of the fray, but I think my time has come to join in.
It is fairly self-evident that stoidela has been getting under the skin of a certain group of posters. She has been posting rants in Great Debates non-stop for the last couple of weeks without being thrown over here to the pit. It takes a little time, but sooner or later the wheels of equality get around to grinding out all transgressors who dare stick their neck out on the forum.
Since the mods never stepped into move her rants where they belonged, the actual members stepped in and swatted stoidela back to where she belongs. Certain members may have gone a little further than good taste would suggest was appropriate, but sometimes when the dams burst, the water crushes everything in it’s path.
I notice that the little miscreant has fled this thread, but has not mended her ways in Great Debates. It looks like a schism is forming in the board, and stoidela is the one driving the two sides further and further apart. I have seen the board go through many turbulent times, and this is nowhere near the worst that I have seen it. I am sure we will all survive stoidela’s little temper tantrums. Hopefully the rest of the board will develop thicker skin and learn to ignore her.
BTW…
I am glad to see that mods have an open arms policy to new posters. It took a lot of courage for me to register, but now that I have, I am looking forward to fully particpating around here. Watch out world…here I come!!!
Now if this isn’t sock puppeteering I don’t know what is
I have a sneaking suspicion that you’re going to find out very soon…
I would like to make it clear that I have only ONE sock puppet, and that is Gadarene.
I have quite an internal battle over this, as I can never really decide if the REAL sock puppet is Gadarene or Freedom2.
I am neither of the other 2 sock puppets in this thread.
Let me say that again…
**
I am neither of the other 2 sock puppets in this thread. **
I do wonder why some would only doubt the motivation behind the most recent SP as opposed to both of them though. IMHO no real lurker worth anything would choose to start posting in a pit thread if they planned on staying around for any length of time.
