I just unintentionally double-posted over in CCC because of a rather strange response I received from the board. It’s been extremely slow all afternoon and I had already received several ‘problem with database’ messages, so I was trying to be careful. (honest!)
Anyway, I had previewed my reply, then hit ‘submit’ and popped over to another window to read another web page while waiting, as just getting my preview had taken about 10 minutes. When I came back to my SDMB window I had a ‘cannot find server’ page, so hit ‘refresh’. The result was an SDMB page telling me that ‘no thread was specified’ and instructions to e-mail the webmaster if I had, indeed, specified a thread.
Knowing the wily, deceitful ways this board, I thought that the smart thing to do before doing anything else was to check the thread and see if my reply had actually gone through. Nope, it hadn’t. So maybe I had accidentally clicked ‘new thread’ instead of ‘reply’, and of course hadn’t entered a title? So I backed up to my reply window to check, and found that everything was hunky-dory there.
Knowing that my reply had NOT made it to the thread, I made my big mistake and confidently clicked on ‘submit’. My reply went through like greased lightning and I found myself back at the thread gazing at my reply - and a double one just above it. :o
No big deal, not the end of the world, but I did want to share the information in case there is a problem that needs to be looked into at the SDMB end, and so others would be aware of what happened in case they encountered the same sequence of events.
BTW, in general the board has been very fast recently and this is the first time in about a week that I’ve encountered a really slow spell. I guess traffic is a little heavier on Friday afternoons.
