Rune:
Everything about this is just plain stupid: Feminist Students Protest Feminist Prof for Writing About Feminism . (In fact everything about Emma Sulkowicz is stupid, but that’s another matter) Amazing how you guys can have any kind of functional university with that kind of hysteric nonsense and rubbish going on. But perhaps it’s mostly found on Women’s Studies which seems to be rubbish anyway. Although I’m sure SDMB will take the usual route and declare it nothing to do with liberals.
Aww…you were doing so well there, and then you ruined it with that last sentence. Please remember to recycle your empty barrel of well poison.
Anyhoo, I was reading about this the other day and yes, this is a liberal clusterfuck of epic proportions. While university instructors obviously have to be accountable for their views, being subject to a bizarre kangaroo court is not the way to do it.

Wow, there are some seriously stupid liberal ideas going on in there! This was a really good addition to this thread.
Bite me.
Are you so used to failure that you feel compelled to admit anticipating it? You actually did find a case of college politics run amok - take a bow.

And, ironically, found possibly one of the best examples of Stupid Liberal Ideas run amok this thread has seen.

You should have asked what “bukake” meant before you volunteered…

Do’h. Teach your grandmother to suck eggs. I know what bukake means. Some boring Japanese puzzle like sudoku .
You seem to have the sexist assumption we’re all male. That’s very republitard of you.
OK. I’m baffled. Everyone seems to be agreeing with your point. What in particular about that is pissing you off?
running_coach:
The agreement part.
Yep. You don’t get Conservative Points unless you get to play the martyr card.
Maybe it’s like fracking - you’re not doing it right unless you poison a well.

Maybe after reading that article about various liberals claiming to be victims of other liberals, Rune just wanted to get in on that sweet, sweet victim action.
Jenee Desmond-Harris of Vox claims that the term “you guys” used to address both genders is sexist. Now, if this was some random tumblrtard blog, I could have cared less but Vox is a fairly respectable centre-left website and it is with some regreat that I post this.

The tech startup npm recently blogged about the unusual challenge some of its employees have agreed to participate in: they put a dollar in a glass jar every time they say “you guys.”
“We didn’t invent the idea, though I’m not sure where we first heard about it,” reads the company’s explanation on Tumblr. “But the idea is: if you believe that using the word ‘guys’ to describe a mixed-gender group of individuals is creeping sexism, and are trying to eliminate that word from your casual use, you put a dollar in the jar every time you do it accidentally.”
Yes, “creeping sexism.”
What is particularly hilarious is that this critique of “you guys” was offered in a slightly variant form over forty years ago by ultra-fundie minister Jack Hyles.

It’s only bad because when the jar is full they give the money to the gal with the biggest tits in the office.
What? I said gal.

Man, Rita Moreno owes them so much money from all those Electric Company episodes.
What’s the alternative? “You people”?
