Stupid liberal idea of the day

Do you think that the President of the United States needs special protection from insults because of his race? Sure I get the difference. On the street, in the workplace, in personal relations. But if you can compare GWB and Ted Cruz’s kids to chimps, you can do it to President Obama. History and context are meaningless in his case. There’s no history of a black President either. As President, people can say whatever the hell they want to about him.

Except that’s not what this is about, is it? We don’t need the PC Patrol to ensure that Obama’s ears are never tainted by a racist statement. That’s not what this is about. It’s about having some fucking standards in our discourse. About some things just not being fair game, or at least recognizing that whoever made the statement is pretty much an unmitigated cunt that has no business being a part of any conversation with pretty much anyone.

Yeah, attacking someone’s kids is bad. We all agree with that. But there’s simply no comparison. In terms of offensiveness, one is an on-the-nose political reference that probably hits a little below the belt, and the other is a direct callback to the days when “black people” was an oxymoron, appealing to the kinds of people who yearn for those days.

Sure you can. You’re just a massive shitbag for doing so, even more so than anyone who compares a white guy’s (and yes, Ted Cruz is white, don’t even try to deny it) kids to an organ grinder’s monkeys to make a point about them being simple political tools. People who pull racist shit like that simply should not be given a microphone.

I still like to know how you define “white”.

He must be using a Latino version of the one-drop rule, since Cruz is at least three-quarters European. (His father may have been Cuban, but his father was from Spain.)

Given demographic trends, liberals classifying a large percentage of Latinos as “white” can only help Republicans.

Who is whiter in this picture?

What’s the deal with Cruz’s jacket sleeve in that picture? It looks like his sleeves are 3-4 inches too long.

History exists and affects the present. Different things are different. This fake color blindness is complete bullshit.

And this isn’t about what people can or can’t do. Anyone can call anyone any names, including slurs, that they want. What this is about is what should be criticized, and how strongly.

It’s wrong to call anyone’s kids monkeys, but it’s still different for Obama vs Cruz.

Given any random statement, adaher is likely to interpret it in a way that favors Republicans.

Of course Cubans can’t be white. They speak Spanish there. It doesn’t matter that, unlike Central and South America, the indigenous population was wiped out, and that nearly everyone in Cuba is of European decent.

The important thing is they speak Spanish there, and white people don’t speak Spanish.

Reading these exchanges and debates that you get into on this board is like masturbating with sandpaper.

You need to use a much finer grade grit. Hence the phrase “polishing the bishop.”

Maybe by the nonexistent One-Drop Rule For Caucasians, but any Republican looking at them would say at least half are black.

ETA: and I don’t quite follow your logic, anyway. You realize that the indigenous population didn’t speak Spanish, right?

Well, sure, the indigenous people of Brazil spoke Portuguese. It was the Pope’s idea.

I’m not following you at all. Latinos (for the most part) aren’t voting for Republicans regardless of whether they’re white Latinos or non-white Latinos. They certainly aren’t going to change their voting preferences based on how “liberals” classify them.

No, it’s not.

Nicely explained, asshole.

Shut the fuck up, you fucking racist

History exists and can have effects on modern language usage.

Not if it means the Right has to acknowledge racial privilege, it doesn’t…
