Perhaps, but only until another liberal tries to break through your helmet of willful ignorance. Then THAT attempt will become the new stupid idea, because you refuse to acknowledge reality
Except for the last part he’s got it about right. And even the last part, there are actually some pro-violence people in every pro-Palestinian movement. Although I do think most of BDS just consists of useful idiots.
Firstly, let me just note that you appear to be trying to claim the moral high ground by asserting that Democrats haven’t been using illegally-obtained information against their opponents, which is real black-is-white stuff.
Secondly, and before you disappear over the horizon with those goalposts, let’s revisit the key points from the post which prompted your complaint about comparing the actions of the two political sides.
Which is what you’ve been doing…
…and which is what you promptly did.
And if it becomes public that you sexually molest kittens when you don’t think anyone can see, that’s something the public should know and take into account. Isn’t this a fun game?
Creating a hypothetical and then pretending the hypothetical is secretly true is delusional at best and malicious at worst. It certainly makes me wonder how little actual negative material you have to work with against the Democrats if you have to spend so much time on this board manufacturing malfeasance and spinning insinuations into crises.
The Democrats certainly have their issues, weaknesses and scandals, but instead of addressing those in a rational and even-handed fashion you seem unable to stop yourself from spouting the latest soundbites from Breitbart or contorting reality to fit your pre-selected narrative. Which is rather sad, because you’re clearly not a stupid person.
When Nancy Pelosi or Hillary Clinton or someone else publishes Trump’s hacked records, go wild. Until then, trying to ding the Dems for purely hypothetical hypocrisy doesn’t really benefit anyone.
Nothing in this thread, no matter how stupid, comes close to the stupidity inherent in this statement:
You’re like the love child of Donald Trump and Charlie Sheen. No wonder you dislike “nuance”.
Back on topic: some mildly stupid liberal ideas coming fromEbony magazinethis week in the wake of Simone Manuel’s historic Olympic victory.
First stupid idea - repeating an urban legend:
The Dandridge story isn’t entirely inaccurate - it’s more likely that the hotel merely threatened to drain the pool if she tried to use it - but the toe-dipping appears to be an exaggeration.
Second stupid idea - this:
This weird epigenetic argument is bordering on Lamarckism. No, black people aren’t afraid of swimming because their ancestors 200-300 years ago crossed the ocean on a slave ship. If you click through the article to the link about the DNA point, it relates to an extrapolation of one tentative study suggesting that children of Holocaust survivors may reflect some genetic effects of their parents’ trauma. To claim there is a multi-generational genetic effect is, shall we say, highly speculative. It also ignores the fact that many descendants of slaves live in the Caribbean and, having ready access to the ocean, have been swimming just fine.
The rather more coherent argument, also posed in the article, is that 1) parents who swim are far more likely to teach their children to swim than parents who don’t, and 2) up until two generations ago, most black people in America were denied access to swimming facilities and thus couldn’t learn to swim. Which is why an increasing number of black children now are swimming. Which is good.
Also:
Those things dont promote a fear of water. They promote a fear of racist assholes (or potentially OCD tendencies to spend more time washing). And they have fuck-all to do with swimming.
I’m all for recognizing the significance of Manuel’s achievement but this nonsense muddies up what could have been a decent article. Am I wrong here?
“Why don’t black people take cruises?”
Because they’re not falling for *that *one again.
To be fair, I love that joke.
No he doesn’t. And he (and you) provide no support for the assertions.
here’s a new stupid liberal idea: that Ellen DeGeneres tweeted a racist tweet about Usain Bolt.
You truly are staggeringly stupid.
If I had a dollar for every time I’d seen or heard a “ride on or attach something to Usain Bolt to make it go fast” joke, I could probably afford to pay Usain Bolt to give me a piggyback ride. Even Bolt makes them.
I don’t believe that DerekMichaels00 is saying that Ellen is racist for tweeting the picture. The “stupid liberal idea” is the backlash that she is facing from others accusing her of racism.
A handful of random social media posters, who seem to exist in no obvious public role or capacity as “liberals” does not make their postings liberal ideas.
I mean if that’s what we’re going to do then lets have the SDMB clone Clothy’s and Derek’s posts directly into the SRIOTD thread.
That’s why I put “stupid liberal idea” in quotes.
On that note, did we cover W. Kamau Bell’s suggestionthat Michael Phelps step aside as duly-elected flagbearer in order to let Ibtihaj Muhammad carry it? I mean, sure, it would have been a nice gesture if he’d offered (and Muhammad was a close second in the vote) but Phelps was chosen and certainly worthy, and there’s no reason to compel him to hand it over by any means.
Mind you, the stupidity of the suggestion was far outweighed by the stupidity of the right-wing reaction to the suggestion, acting as if a rampaging mob of liberals had bound and gagged Phelps and handed our precious flag to one of those America-hating Mooslim types, so I suppose it was a wash overall.
Odd. I thought that Mr Phelps had a couple of notes of discord with the tighty rightys. Don’t recall off hand what they were.
One of the things I like about the Olympics is that it gives a chance for lesser-known sports, and therefore lesser-known athletes, to have a chance at the spotlight. You can’t exactly say that Phelps has been lacking in the fame and fortune department prior to these games. However, despite this being his fifth Olympics, he’d never been in the parade during the Opening Ceremonies before; his events always began the following day so he skipped it to rest up for the competition. He’s earned the honor, and this was his only chance to do it.
correct. The idea that the tweet was “racist” is the idea that is the stupid leftist one of the day.
Someone has to carry it in the closing ceremonies, too - and she’s now a medalist.
She got a bronze while other athletes won gold, set records, etc. They’re much more worthy of carrying it.
Where are liberals pining for a Mormon or Evangelical, to carry the flag?
So if she won the gold you would have been in favor of her carrying the flag?
Have they historically been unrepresented among American Olympians?
