Stupid liberal idea of the day

It’s like not tolerating intolerance. It’s okay to troll trolls.

It’s bad form to admit it though…

there you go again, everything is about skin color, race, etc.

Ummm no. The problem with the hijab is that its oppressive to women; the reason the hijab exists and continues to do so, unlike most other traditional garb outside of celebrations, is because it makes women invisible to men who are not their husbands, family members, or fiances (and often forced to be so). What happens when the woman is treated poorly? She cannot even begin to consider other men if she can’t even be noticed by them.

As Churchill (a hero of Western civilization) said: “The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.”

Yeah? And sweat bands exist to collect sweat.

Churchill had his moments. Sadly, they were moments.

Why again was that flag hijab desecration? Not that I think you have any idea about honor or patriotism, considering your incredible dishonesty, bigotry, and cowardice.

Churchill was wrong, since there is immense diversity in the Islamic world.

because it puts the American flag on a symbol of misogynistic oppression…

You care about women’s rights about as much as Trump does.

He sure doesn’t give a shit about some fat red-neck sweating all over Ol’ Glory either.

Fucking scarves aren’t misogynistic oppression, dipshit. God what a coward you are. It’s just a fucking scarf.

Nobody’s forcing her to wear it, fool. It’s her *own *decision to wear a symbol of her faith, one of the three main Abrahamic faiths, just like it would be someone *else’s *own decision to wear a crucifix necklace.

Look, DerekMichaels00 is a clown, but I think the above might be naive. Just because a WASP American woman has the complete freedom to wear a crucifix or not, does not mean there isn’t social pressure amount minority communities to go to certain schools, restrict their interaction with others outside of the community or limit their freedom of choice. Yeah, any woman in America could just choose not to wear a thin cloth covering her entire face, but there would be consequences within the community she depends on.

France has made inroads into a ban like this. In the debate I can agree both with people who believe it’s necessary to aid those without a strong voice in culturally segregated communities and with those that think it runs the range of religious profiling and outright condescension.

Except that a hijab is not a burqa. A hijab is just a fucking scarf, little different from the scarf my wife or millions of other non Muslim American women wear on their heads routinely because they’re cold, they don’t want to fix their hair, or a dozen other reasons.

And no one finds it troubling that the idea of desecration of the American Flag is still a thing to some people? People who mockingly draw pictures of PBUH Mohammed?

Fair enough, it’s ridiculous for any western person to object to a hijab, I agree. Everyone’s grandmother here has worn one at some point and it doesn’t inhibit the woman in a way that a burqa clearly does.

no one was arguing for burning buildings, imprisoning, or killing people who desecrate the flag (including putting it on a hijab) of the greatest nation in the world and the hope of the Earth. Contrast that with the terrorist reactions to Muhammed drawings and apologists/explainers for them. Also, just because a person has a right to do something, doesn’t make it right. See desecrating the flag, or using a racial slur as an example.

One can only “desecrate” something holy. That is the root meaning of the word. If what you really mean is “disrespect” or “dishonor”…as you might sneer at a political figure…then use one of those words.

However, if you truly mean to suggest that the flag of the United States has a quality that is sacred, divine, worthy of worship…please let us know why. Is there a Deity assigned to decide if the American flag is holier than, say, the two headed eagle of Greater Serbia? Is it, by any chance, the same Deity that forms the central character for the Abrahamic religions? Are there prophecies involved?

Or are you simply hoping to get away with insinuating something you cannot actually support?

Discussions like this always make me think of that scene near the end of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, when Indy meets the knight who’s guarding the Holy Grail. The knight says “Ask yourself, why do you seek the Cup of Christ? Is it for His glory, or for yours?” That’s what I wonder when I see Olympic athletes holding the flag over their shoulders while they pose for pictures, or politicians with the now obligatory flag pin on their lapels; are they doing it to make the flag look better, or to make themselves look better?

Saying bigoted things, lying, and being a coward are more examples you are very familiar with.

You are the wh00sh-meister. You got my point backwards. I see people treat the flag like “… Lady Madonna, sittin’ on a, pedestal of abalone shell …” some kind of sacred icon, but when it comes to someone else’s genuinely religious sensitivities, fuck them, we should taunt them.
