3> Obscure, foreign or college student stupidity that has no actual purchase among Liberals.
4> Complete failure to grasp history or fact, usually in the form of claiming governments don’t have the power to do something governments have done since before recorded history.

For some time I’ve read the thread title (internally) as Stupid Idea That Conservatives Think Liberals Have. Of the Day. Helps me get through it without having apoplexy or a laughing fit.
Sen. Don Nelson (D) Florida. Being interviewed on CNN during Ft. Lauderdale Airport shooting, manages to mention the Orlando nightclub shooting and that he’s just introduced a bill that would have caught the shooter and stopped him from buying the “high caliber rapid fire rifle” (Nelson’s words)that he used.

Every shooting, regardless of the details, is an excuse to bring up a gun control bill. And Nelson just kissed his job goodbye.
When he was being interviewed, it was way too early in the incident to have thrown together any kind of bill. No idea why he’s sponsoring a bill that having to do with the Orlando shooting this long after that event.
And let’s not forget that Republicans will milk a shooting for it’s 2nd Amendment potential.

Unless his bill involves time travel, it will do shit for the Orlando shooting. Plus, he gave no details.

We’ve known for a long time to best time to get sensible gun control passed is to jump on it after a tragedy. And that’s exactly the time Republicans say, “let’s let things cool down first,” which is their way of doing nothing.
Australia got their gun control passed after a mass shooting and they’re doing just fine. Haven’t been taken over by a dictator yet.

Presumably that’s why he said it “would have prevented” the Orlando shooting, not that it will prevent it. And it’s most likely the same thing Nelson has been offering up since the Orlando shooting, which would have required the FBI to be notified when the Orlando shooter bought a gun.
