Stupid liberal idea of the day

Well, assuming we believe them, they’d attended the march for many years and brought the same flag every year. And the flag is an Israeli pride flag, that is, gay pride, in Israel. The Israeli equivalent of a stars and stripes with rainbow stripes. It’s a flag that you would use to say “I’m pro-gay” while living in Israel, not something with an intended message of “gays are great and also Israel is great” or anything like that.

Taking them at their word* then, it’s unfortunate that they were turned away.
If they were willing to participate in the parade on the understanding that it was pro-Palestinian in its intent, and they were there to support that message, allowing them to participate could have been an opportunity to foster mutual respect and support. (Although given that one of the organizers also described the march as “anti-Zionist”,** I doubt the organizers would be open to such inclusiveness.)

*I’m not sure they’re actually claiming to have participated in this same parade in the past.
From the article:

This might be refering to other events, not the Dyke March. There is also nothing from them to indicate they were either aware of or supportive of the march’s anti-Zionist/pro-Palestinian agenda. Although the following response does make me wonder whether they went there with the intent to be turned away.

I don’t know the history of the Dyke March, but if it’s a normally inclusive event that’s now been co-opted by an anti-Zionist political interest group that’s turning away long-time participants, that is extremely regrettable and stupid.

**As a side note, I personally tend to be rather leery of any events described as either “pro-Israel” or “anti-Zionist”.

But we’re still down to this; This was not a “LIBERAL” event, and thus not a ‘Stupid liberal idea of the day’.

Eh, just give it to them. We have to fill the spaces with something.

So…you’re saying that we should give them a participation trophy?

There’s some subtlety there.

The impression I get is that this event is similar to the normal pride parade, but with more focus on social justice and equality issues. One of the positions the organizers hold is being pro-Palestine. But this event is not itself about, or focused on, pro-Palestine or anti-Zionism or any such thing.
So the message of the march is something like “yay, marginalized people of all sorts, have your voices heard!” and the marchers in question showed up thinking that, as gay people, they were marginalized, not realizing that to the organizers of the mach “yay, marginalized people” clearly means “yay Palestinians, boo Israelis”, even though nothing in the description of the march itself makes that clear.
But I might be wrong. If nothing else, you’d think that if the march was specifically about Palestine it would be called “Dykes for Palestine” or something.

Eh… it wasn’t organized by the democratic party, and isn’t in the mainstream of liberal thought, but this seems to be squarely on the fringe left (if something can be squarely in a fringe).

…which means that it’s subject to admiralty law.

All very good points.

I’m quite willing to consider this a possibly stupid possibly “liberal” idea.

I just watched this story being covered by the very Lefist/progressive TYT. They came down very strongly on the side of the rejected Jewish marchers, and more or less characterised the incident as an example of far-left stupidity.

I can’t find it atm but it was a thread where I criticized Hillary, blamed her for losing to Trump, called her a cheater and accused the DNC of pushing the primary in her direction. We as a nation are finally getting to the point of realizing how bad Hillary was. Nominating her was probably one of the STUPIDEST liberal idea liberal we’ve had so far this millennium. But the Ready for Hillary Crowd believes that any criticism of Hillary is rooted in misogyny. As if women get a free pass from any critics because they are women.

The Ready for Hillary Crowd (and their sycophants) responded a dozen times to my initial post so I responded to each of their posts separately. Apparently I’m supposed to respond to 12 posts with a single concise post. I’ve considered the difference between responding to every poster individually without sing multiquote versus responding to every poster individually without using multiquote and think its half dozen of one and six of another. Unless thy are saying I simply shouldn’t disagree with them (and that seems to be a strong instinct among liberals on this board and across the nation generally). Conservatives do this too but not on this board.

What if I suggest that nominating Hillary was a stupid liberal idea. Almost as stupid as nominating Trump was for the conservative…almost.

Sheriff blames animal rights activists for 35,000 lost mink

This isn’t the first time animal activists have let loose mink to dire consequences. Mink are vicious little bastards, and if they don’t die themselves they absolutely destroy the local bird population.

I understand that mink as fur animals are not well-treated, but if you’re going to take it upon yourself to free them from bondage you damn well better take the little shits with you.

Yup, purely stupid.

“It is evil to raise animals for fur, so we’ll free them all to die of starvation and other causes while also killing lots of local wildlife!”

Then of course the masturbatory congratulations for freeing the animals and hurting the evil farmer while ignoring the actual consequences of their actions. Unfortunately, most of those “animal rights activists” know fuck all about nature.

Here ( in Northern Europe ) we have these cases every spring. When the weather warms enough to go out after dark those city kids go to free minks - just when the birds start nesting.

One perfect example of their ignorance is a pamphlet that stated cows should roam free and make their nests wherever they want - I kid you not, it’s been a running joke for last twenty years ! :smack:

Cow…nests…

Wow. Just…wow.

35,000 minks sounds like a lot.

I can’t even imagine the logistics in freeing that many (or housing that many).

Go to any field where cows have been. There are cow nests everywhere.

You should see the cow’s nest on a ship. That’ll shiver your timbers…Arrrgh!

I like it when the cows come to nest on my property. Free cow eggs! And who doesn’t love a good cow omelette?

I had to laugh at the screams of outrage from the liberal media about President Trump’s visit to Texas to see the storm damage. Other than the one CNN jackass who tweeted that we hadn’t suffered enough, here comes Trump, the major outrage was directed at his wife’s shoes.

And kudos to her for shutting them down solidly. Classy lady!

Outrage or ridicule? I’m mostly seeing ridicule. Their are more important things to be outraged about.
