Not that HE got a pass, but that liberals often get a pass…like this guy…
Again, where did you get that? He does seem to think he’s entitled to grab pussies based on power inequality, but surely you understand how *that *works. Where was there any mention of his politics or his studio’s? :dubious:
Ahh, another chorus of “liberal hypocrisy”. So FRESH! So NEW!
Weinstein is taking a “leave of absence” from his studio and at least one Democratic Senator (Leahy) has already said he’ll donate the amount of Weinstein’s campaign contribution to a charity.
Let’s see how it goes. Will liberals circle the wagons around him or distance themselves from him? I’m hoping, and betting, on the latter.
I haven’t followed the story closely yet. If the allegations are true (and my money is on “yes”), then I hope Weinstein is punished to the full extent of the law and run out of Hollywood on a rail.
I’m not aware of any “liberals” who support powerful men who prey on women.
And I don’t count Bill Clinton in that company, he was only a horndog who boinked compliant ladies. Like Warren G. Harding.
It is worth noting that Weinstein’s statement takes the form of an apology. A less that perfect expression of remorse, as it includes excuses, but he is nonetheless remorseful. This is a behavior that tends to appear more on the left than on the right. Those rightward often show little indication that they recognize that they did anything wrong.
Generally speaking. There are, obviously exceptions on both sides.
Emphasis mine:
It remains unclear whether he is remorseful for his actions or remorseful for getting caught. He’s apparently been doing this for decades and only now that the article is out are we seeing even a minuscule mea culpa.
So, he doesn’t deserve a legal defense because he’s a liberal? You have some pretty un-American opinions.
Well, uh, maybe he didn’t realize the naughtiness of his actions before if no-one was complaining to his face, you know. Just fun and games, chicks playing hard to get and stuff. And now his eyes are opened and he suffers horribly for anxiety he has caused. I’m sure deep down he’s a good, fine lad. And he’s against Trump, so he can’t be all that bad. He probably even disapproved Trump’s grabbing comments. The man is a saint, he even has a beard just like Jesus.
And oh, yes, adaher’s a moron. What’s the liberal idea again ?
Maybe I’m unduly cynical, but I would have been shocked to learn that a long-time and highly influential Hollywood producer wasn’t an amoral sleazebag using his influence to coerce (or worse) young women into sex. So well done to the woman who finally succeeded in breaking the dam.
Apologies for abstaining from the wagon-circling exercise adaher was apparently hoping for.
No, he just shouldn’t be defended by Lisa Bloom given that she’s only doing it because he’s done her favors. Her mother, Gloria Allred, actually did say she doesn’t represent men accused of sexual harassment, which is also wrong.
But my issue with Bloom is mainly hypocrisy. She was all over the O’Reilly case. But Weinstein, he’s just an old dinosaur who is trying to be better. Maybe so, but he has a long way to go. I’d say that what he did goes beyond mere sexual harassment. We should have a category in between sexual harassment and rape, a term for trying to intimidate women into having sex with you. Because that’s not “dinosaur” behavior, that was wrong when he was young.
But Lisa Bloom is circling the wagons! Well, wagon, I guess. Like that gag in Blazing Saddles with the one wagon running around. See! Liberal hypocrisy!
Uh oh, he’s invoked the “right wing conspiracy”!
Let me get this straight. You really expect Libtards running to defend a white, straight, rich, middle-aged, obese, balding MALE who has offended FEMALES ( some of them might even be African-American ) ?
Seriously ? :smack:
OK, he’s a scumbag, and the gossip sites are having a field day, just like Trump’s “Grab 'em by the pussy.” I’d love to see him stripped from influence and locked up, but at worst he’ll wind up in Club Fed and write a book and appear on Oprah when he gets out. He’ll find a way to profit from the controversy, and he’ll certainly be qualified to run for president. That’s America for you!
I don’t expect him to be defended. My post was about how HE seems to expect it. And now he’s invoking the “right wing conspiracy”, which is a proven way to rally the left around you. Except he’s expendable. He’s not even the only important Weinstein in Hollywood. It’s like losing a Baldwin. We’ve got more.
I don’t expect him to go to jail or be stripped of influence either. Nothing about this case should prevent him from working at his profession. Unlike say, Woody Allen, he’s coming clean and trying to change. If he doesn’t, then studios can stop working with him if he acts up while working on their projects.
Who the fuck are you to decide which lawyers he gets to use? And who the fuck are you to tell his lawyer why she’s representing him? If you’re a mind reader tell me what I think about this un-American bullshit you’re spouting.
Oh, sorry then, I must have misread this somehow:
While I wouldn’t put it past him to do so, it’s worth noting that this assertion is based on one anonymous source speaking to a heavily-biased right-wing tabloid with a long history of misrepresenting facts and blatantly making things up. I’d like a little more corroboration from reliable sources before I accept this as true.
Of course, I’d also like adaher to accurately represent the facts of the matter before attempting to extrapolate wildly from them.
And I’d like a pony.
You started off saying that liberals get a pass for their sins and you criticized Bloom for defending him. When no one in this thread rushed to Weinstein’s defense, you backed down to saying that you didn’t expect anyone to defend him and you don’t even want him to be prevented from working in his profession – the very profession that he has exploited to harass attractive young women. Pretty much everyone in this thread is calling for him to suffer consequences for being a serial sexual harasser. You’re currently the only one defending him here.
