Calling something ‘virtue signalling’ is really only a sign that you yourself are lacking in virtue and do not see any value in virtue or goodness. You also very likely believe that everyone else in the world is exactly like you.
In other words, you’re a piece of shit calling out someone else for thinking that they’re a good person when you don’t believe anyone is good. But that person’s actions trigger the rotted carcass of your own conscious and the only way you can distract from that internal dissonance is to mock the other party.
So henceforth translate all occurrences of ‘virtue signaling’ as the speaker saying; ‘Good god am I a piece of shit’.
