It’s one thing to have planned it - I’m sure they did start planning months ago, it’s something that happens every two years like clockwork. The 2022 dinner is probably already marked down on many people’s calendars.
However, IMNSHO, someone should have looked at the covid numbers last week and said “no, we’re not doing this.” Instead, it looks like they were going to try to social distance a meet-and-greet (which just doesn’t work) and the only reason it’s being cancelled is that members of the press and the public started publicizing the absolute idiocy of this kind of event at this time.
I agree. I assume the dinner was planned for tonight (I didn’t see a date listed). At least it sounded like they were planning to have it be as socially distanced as they could. I think they even mentioned having good air circulation. And yeah, cancelling it is not only a better idea, but it’s good to lead by setting an example.
At least they weren’t going to be spending the night hugging, shaking hands, rubbing elbows and packed into a small space like the GOP has been doing any time they feel the need to celebrate something (like a certain supreme court justice).
I am truly amazed. A stupid liberal idea is Dem lawmakers cancelling an event later than they maybe should have, while the Republican lawmakers are deliberately refusing to contact Democrats who have been exposed to infected Republicans.
I don’t know, but in that jurisdiction, according to that article, they are. The parents are still angry and frustrated because when they reported their son missing they were (according to the parents) more or less ignored and even now they say they’re not getting any answers. Justice, from what I gather, is answers about what happened.
From the article:
"‘We certainly hope that the Sheriff Office and all of the local agencies are putting more energy in solving the mystery of Quawan´s death than they did in trying to find him when he was reported missing,’ Haley said via email in response to Romero’s statement.
‘Though it may appear that the relationship between the Charles family and the local agencies has been adversarial, at the end of the day the family just wants truthful answers so that they know how and why Quawan died regardless of who provides them those answers.’ "
Coroner said he drowned. The coroner doesn’t determine how he ended up in the water. If I held your head underwater, the coroner would say the same thing. It’s up to the police to determine how he ended up drowning. Did he slip and fall? Was he thrown in? Did someone hold him under water? What was he doing with the other family? Why did the police brush off the parent’s when the reported him missing.
These are all questions that need answering to attain justice.
