As far as I can tell, the family is wanting a more thorough investigation, as they would like more answers to these questions. Why are you opposed to a more thorough investigation?

The Coroner said there was NO evidence of ante-mortem trauma, i.e. he wasn’t pushed or held under the water.

In a statement Saturday, Iberia Parish Sheriff Tommy Romero said “any case involving someone found deceased in this manner” is treated as a homicide investigation.
No ante-mortem trauma would imply that there were no drugs present in his system, he hadn’t been shot, strangled, tied up, no broken bones or fresh bruises, no scratches or cuts etc.
The coroner isn’t going to be able to tell if something was done that wouldn’t leave a mark. Getting pushed into a river isn’t going to leave any marks on a body that would make it obvious they didn’t just trip and fall in.
A loved one dies, drowned in ankle-deep water under weird circumstances with unanswered questions - of course the family is going to be skeptical, and even grasp at straws to have it make sense until the investigation is complete and questions can be answered. For you to mock this as a stupid liberal idea is shameful.
If an evildoer snuck up behind him and pushed, there likely wouldn’t be marks on the body. However, holding someone’s head under water would naturally cause a violent struggle, probably leaving bruises or other marks on the deceased.
The articles say he drowned in ankle-deep water. The autopsy photo appeared to the mother to show a large swelling on one side of his face. The police allegedly didn’t respond to the missing person report in a timely manner. All those things, rightly or wrongly, would make a family, who is already distraught, suspicious. The police are doing a thorough investigation to answer these suspicions. As they should.

Not necessarily. And not if he were semi-conscious.
Chances are, he passed out and drowned, but you don’t rule out other possibilities based on likelihood. You, you know, investigate. Did the cops talk to the friend and the friend’s mother? Do you know?

No one has explained, despite all of the available evidence, WHY people are protesting. A dumb teenager (which are all teenagers) fell in the water and drowned. And what does the NAACP have to do with it? Why are some people trying to make this about race?
I heard conspiracy theories on websites frequented by largely black audiences maybe even a video if I can find it where they were saying he was hung, which seems weird and also that the dad, (stepdad?) killed him.
