Stupid liberal idea of the day

Your feeble attempts at specific examples of stupid liberal ideas have already been addressed. You may not have noticed because at the time you were trying to wrestle with comprehending the difference between a post giving a better example of a stupid liberal idea and a post claiming that stupid liberal ideas don’t exist.

My dear liberal dopers,

Your feeble attempts to avoid addressing the stupid liberal ideas I have posted do not due you service as an intellectually vibrant community.

Neither does this.

Will everyone stop interacting with this grump? He’s been asked repeatedly to provide evidence and he’s dancing around that. He has no solid proof, and he’s making everyone look gullible, like we honestly believe he’ll debate in earnest if we just keep asking for evidence… he obviously has none. And I feel foolish for even trying to make him see this.

Typical liberal doper response. He can’t provide a cite that some liberals believe there is a cure for disease X that big pharma is suppressing so it’s all bullshit.

Say conservatives believe in Qanon, well that’s the word of God.

Here is a pre-Trump WaPo article which has some definite liberal conspiracy theories, including 2004 stolen election fraud conspiracies and the ever-popular ‘9/11 was an inside job’, which was believed by as many Dems, by percentage, as Republicans who were Birthers:

For a new guy, you’re awfully familiar with the board culture.

Long time lurker

Strange response from someone who just got here, you piece of shit sock.

Bullshit.

Typical liberal doper responses.

How funny, all the conservative trolls use this same exact excuse!

Hive mind!

Oh goodie, we got the one that can do math.

Here’s another math problem that challenges most conservatives…- which number is larger, 74 million or 81 million?

'Dear Kasey,

Long time lurker, first time poster here. When I was 16 years old, I used a friends 486 (with turbo button) to get on the Prodigy boards and argue that liberals were stupid because I read in The People’s Almanac about a car that could run on a gas of water and this pill.

Today, however, I get on these newfangled Boards and people just wonder what I’m talking about, making references to the Seventies like the greatest decade in the history of mankind is no longer valid or something.

Kasey, can you play ‘Help!’ by the Beatles for that time when it was just easier and more satisfying to own the libs?’

  1. And some characters.

When you are ready to discuss stupid liberal ideas, I’ll be here.

But will you be there whenever they’s a fight so hungry people can eat? Will you be there whereever they’d a cop beating up on a guy? Will you be there in the way guys yell when they’re mad? And the way kids laugh when they’re hungry and they know supper’s ready?

Put up or shut up, troll.

…or not.

This might qualify as a ‘Stupid liberal idea of the day’, although, it might be more fair (and less incendiary) to describe it as an ‘Unfortunate (mostly) liberal misapprehension’.

Skeptic Magazine: Liberals Most Uninformed About Fatal Police Shootings

The gist of the report is this: 980 adults, their political views ranging from ‘very liberal’ to ‘very conservative’, were asked the question “How many unarmed Black men were killed by police in 2019?” Respondents were given five options and asked to pick the one they felt was closest. The options were:

a) About 10
b) About 100
c) About 1,000
d) About 10,000
e) More than 10,000

Sources differ on the true figure, but two of the most widely cited, the Washington Post’s ‘Fatal Force’ database and the BLM affiliated project ‘Mapping Police Violence’, give figures of 13 and 27, respectively. The correct answer, therefore, was (a).

Although in none of the five groups did a majority of respondents choose option (a), those who self-identified as either ‘liberal’ or ‘very liberal’ did waaaay worse than those who identified as ‘centrists’, ‘conservative’, or ‘very conservative’.

Of those who identified as ‘very liberal’, 31.43% believed that police killed about a thousand unarmed black men in 2019. 14.29% believed that police killed about ten thousand unarmed black men in 2019, and 7.86% thought the true number was higher than that!

The figures for the ‘liberal’ group weren’t much better, and even 16.40% of self-described centrists thought police killed about 1,000 unarmed black men per year, or about 3 a day.

While there is, of course, the possibility that some of the respondents only chose such outlandish answers because they wanted to mess with the pollsters, my intuition tells me that those who identify as ‘liberal’ or ‘very liberal’ would probably be unwilling to joke about such a serious subject. If, as I suspect, we can take these results at face value, it appears as though the left has misapprehensions about racism and police violence which are so profound that they constitute a kind of moral panic. This is troubling since, as the report notes, “Amidst calls to defund and reform the police, informed understandings of police-citizen interactions are crucial.”
