I think there’s two likely possibilities regarding the alleged Afrocentric curriculum for Chicago.
The story if simply fake, either because the site got pranked (as suggested by Revtim) or the reporter simply made shit up (not something that would shock me coming from the Daily Caller).
There has been a suggestion or a decision to include an Afrocentric component as a small unit within the broader curriculum, and this has been misinterpreted (either accidentally or willfully) as a policy to make the whole curriculum Afrocentric.
A few years ago, a bill in California added a requirement that the school curriculum pay attention to the historical and contemporary role of LGBT folks. Some folks got all up in arms about the law, worried that their kids would be subjected to a “gay history course,” and suggesting that the curriculum would now be dominated by gay issues.
But there was no such course, and the law did not mandate undue attention to LGBT issues. It simply added LGBT people to a long, already-existing list of groups that were supposed to be covered in the curriculum. That list included men and women, Native Americans, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, European Americans, persons with disabilities, and members of other ethnic and cultural groups.
The doomsayers completely misrepresented what the curriculum change required, and if Chicago really is considering adding an Afrocentric component to its curriculum, i’ll bet that what’s happened here.
A couple of other comments about the column. It’s headlined “See what they’ll be teaching in the Chicago public schools.” They claim to have a copy of the curriculum.
But do they let us see it? No, there is no link to it. There is only a link to the crazy site, so that’s what we’re given to believe that the children will be learning.
They fact that they don’t link to the source document suggests to me that a reasonable person looking at it would draw entirely different conclusions about it than the article does.
Poor Tucker Carlson! He’s trying so hard to be a major tighty righty shit slinger. Glenn Beck and Hannity are rolling in the Benjamins with hookers and blow, while he would be lucky to get a hand job from Ann Coulter.
Fucker Carlson is Ben Shapiro + 20 years or so. A pathetic, repressed, adolescent man-child who desperately clings to his counterfactual worldview because it’s better than going to bed every night wondering why there wasn’t more…
I’m guessing intentional fraud by Chuck Ross, the Daily Caller PR man. Is starts with “It includes a web link to TheAfrican.com,” which means absolutely nothing other than a web link was included somewhere in the materials. The rest of the mentions and the really scary stuff are carefully crafted to point to what the website stands for, not what’s in the curriculum.
Not that the link should be there anyway (though attacking a draft version as final is a bit repugnant), and not that there aren’t issues that seem to be overbroad or need to be worked out. But that does not excuse the malignant effort put in to muddle up the story.
It’s entirely possible that the link to The African is part of the curriculum in a section “this is the sort of stuff that African Exceptionalists believe.” Nobody knows, for sure, but that is as good an explanation as any.
In my town, there is a private company that administers the Medical assistance for 13 or so counties in west central Minnesota. I was talking to one of the claims people a few weeks ago and asked her what was going to happen to the benefits to her people when ObamaCare kicks in. She stated that they were afraid that their people would see quite substantial cuts in benefits. When asked how the benefits would compare then to Medicare she said that she desperately hoped her client’s benefits would never get THAT bad. Being a recipient of these Medicare benefits for the last 10 years, this really pi$$ed me off and I proceeded to explain just why I was so upset, namely how I worked my ass off and paid in 50 plus years towards Medicare while Medical Assistance recipients paid in NOTHING. She just failed to see why I should be so upset. Now, am I all wrong on this? Should I just drop off from society, hide my income and assets and draw from the magic unending medical pool?:smack:
Not related to this story, but it turns out this idiot is among the many politicians who lied about his military service and claimed to have served in Vietnam when he never did.
