It’s disturbing how many people there are who are like this lady. She’s frantic and terrified over a bunch of crazy untrue bullshit.

I didn’t see the video yet (at work) but I am reminded of the crazy lady who called Obama an Arab and John McCain corrected her politely. It was one of the few moments when McCain didn’t seem like a caricature during and even since the election so if he could manage it since he has been overcome by Derptitude, I have little patience for anyone else who can’t.

At least McCain, back in 2008, had the decency to be somewhat taken aback when he realized his audience had drunk the Fox News Kool-Aid and actually tried to encourage sanity.

The idea seemed pretty straightforward. The fourth-grade class, made up of 9-and-10-year-olds from the Southeast corner of the state, worked on a proposal to make the Red Tail Hawk the official State Raptor of New Hampshire. The kids and their teacher brought their proposal to the state capitol, and it was approved by the Environment and Agriculture Committee.

But as the report from NH1.com’s Shari Small makes clear, on the floor of the state House, the children ran into unexpectedly fierce Republican opposition. The kids heard one GOP lawmaker argue, for example, in reference to the Red Tail Hawk, “It grasps them with its talons then uses its razor sharp beak to basically tear it apart limb by limb, and I guess the shame about making this a state bird is it would serve as a much better mascot for Planned Parenthood.”

Those comments, from state Rep. Warren Groen (R), were apparently the harshest of the debate, but he wasn’t alone. In fact, the Republican-led New Hampshire state House killed the proposal from the 4th graders on a 133-to-160 vote.

What better way to inspire young people about the vitality of American civic affairs than to have far-right politicians mock and defeat an innocuous bill written by children?

Here’s a sweet little story of Democracy in Action. A bright eighth grader writes to her state legislator with an idea for a law: Vermont doesn’t have an official Latin motto, so why not adopt one? And for that matter, make it a reference to history? Neato!

So state Sen. Joe Benning — a Republican who was actually trying to do a good thing, which he has probably learned to never try again — introduced a bill to adopt the motto “Stella quarta decima fulgeat.” — May the fourteenth star shine bright.” Because Vermont was the 14th state, see? Benning noted that when Vermont briefly minted its own currency, it was engraved with “Stella Quarta Deccima,” so the phrase had real historical cachet.

And then Burlington TV station WCAX put the story on its Facebook page with the headline, “Should Vermont have an official Latin motto?” and all Stupid broke loose when morons thought that Vermont was knuckling under to a bunch of goddamned illegal immigrants.

A group of New Hampshire 4th-graders got a lesson in sausagery when Republicans in the lege turned their bill to designate the official State Raptor into some incredibly divisive crazystupid.

Rep. Rep. John Burt opposed it because there are already too many laws.

Actually, I suspect that one knew exactly what he was saying. In the rush to ferret out right-wing derpage, the Wonkette is probably missing that *some *of these have to be jokes.

Towards the bottom of the article she does mention that eventually the page started receiving a lot of people mocking the original comments. Whether or not that particular comment was serious or a joke is hard to say.
