Stupid Republican idea of the day

Rep. Steve King thinks that Jewish Democrats don’t have their priorities straight.

“It says this, they’re knee-jerk supporters of the President’s policy,” he said, apparently thinking that instead, a good Jew should be a knee-jerk supporter of Netanyahu’s policy.

ETA: He was raised Methodist but converted to Roman Catholicism, so he has every right to criticize Jews.

“The author of that article, Doktor Zoom (we’ve been misattributing it to Wonkette), is of the opinion that Dan Zucker is actually parodying the other posts.”

Doktor Zoom is the columnist, Wonkette is the website. Dok is a regular columnist there.

Well, we got this kewl old language of theirs that you can somehow use to make anything look profound and stately. “Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum videtur!”

Right. But I, and apparently some others, had the impression that Wonkette was both the name of the website and the nom de plume of the author.

That’s all Greek to me.

Michigan has no interest in changing the private provider of food service to state prisons because it saves the state money. It doesn’t matter that their food is rotten, full of maggots, and nibbled on by rats. And, actually, pulled out of the garbage can before being served to the prisoners.

BrainGlutton, you posted this exact same thing in three different threads. Please refrain from the cut and paste style of posting in the future. If you have something to add, at least try to be creative about it.

:dubious: Of course I did. It fit perfectly in all three. That, sir, is creativity.

You are dismissed with the contempt you deserve.

Jonathan Chance, you posted this exact same thing in three different threads, and in two consecutive posts in this thread. Please refrain from the cut and paste style of posting in the future. If you have something to add, at least try to be creative about it.

And please go here.

[Moderating]
BrainGlutton, between this post and the post report you made on Jonathan Chance’s mod note, I’m concerned that you are not taking the instructions you are receiving seriously. This is a formal warning that you need to pay attention to moderator instructions. If you feel that you have been moderated in error, you may create an ATMB thread to discuss the issue.

If you do go that route, we prefer that you do so in your own words, and not just cut and paste from the thread mhendo started.

Sheesh, what the fuck is wrong with you people? Are you, like, Republicans or something? Too bad the pay scale is so pathetic or we could get some good and proper mods instead of the likes of a Sith Twink.

Shit or get outta the Pit.

You would have to be an idiot to say racism is over, but I have some sympathy for people who can’t keep up with the proper ethnic terms (although I agree that people who speak publicly on racial issues would do well to pay more attention than the average Joe). With the NAACP and UNCF still actively advertising, I can see how people can make innocent mistakes.

I grew up calling East Asian people “Orientals,” and only recently learned that it is now considered offensive by many, who prefer “Asian.” To me, “Asian” is ridiculously non-specific, since it encompasses, e.g., Russians, Indians, Iranians, and Arabs. So I now say “East Asian,” and it still feels awkward.

Just BTW, my Japanese-American wife agrees with me on this, and these days she doesn’t agree with me on much.

Oh come on. The existence of the NAACP and the UNCF makes terms that have been out of use for DECADES somehow mysterious?

Colored and Negro have been off the verbal menu for 45 years. People born when that happened have children and some have grandchildren. Just pointing out that it is a lousy excuse.

You’re sort of being provincial. The fact that they’ve been out of use in your liberal circles for decades has nothing to do with (e.g.) some old cracker in Georgia, who thinks he’s being enlightened by not saying “nigra” or worse (my high school history teacher, in a town in Washington state, invariably said “nigra” during his lectures).

And there’s nothing mysterious about it. It’s just a fact that “negro” and “colored” were preferred, polite terms for DECADES, as you like to emphasize, and people who grew up during those decades, and who only associate with similar people, and who don’t watch the shows you watch or read the articles you read, may be genuinely unaware that they are now considered offensive. That makes them ignorant, but not racist.

Not for that reason alone, anyway.

It doesn’t even make them ignorant. They just don’t give a shit. Playing “keep up” is as it sounds, a game.
