This is not a Palinism; he clearly knows that such a religion-based test would be laughed out of the lowest court. His repugnant pandering to those who are Palinesque, those who think that not only is this a good idea but doable but for the will of the Obama administration, is fodder for the Vile Republican Idea of the Day thread.
They can go sleep in the stable. It’s good enough for their kind.
Then, after they’ve registered with the government and paid their taxes, they can go the hell back home to Nazareth or wherever. We don’t need them around any longer than that.
Lots of weasel words here on what constitutes a “terror attack” for the purposes of a bet. For example, would the Oklahoma City Bombing be terrorism? Yes, but for the purposes of the bet, does a homegrown right wing terror attack count? Sure seems against the spirit of the bet.
So if we limit a “terror attack” to an attack by an immigrant, that wouldn’t even include Nidal Hasan, the Ft. Hood shooter, because he was born in Virginia. And if we limit it to people coming here specifically to commit acts of terror, we exclude Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev who came here at the age of 9 years old.
The spirit of this bet would be that someone came into this country legally or quasi-legally specifically because they wanted to commit acts of terror against America and that has not happened since 9/11.
As for the second part, does a “lynching” require hanging from trees and pitchforked lynch mobs? Because that is unlikely. But since 9/11, there have been many cases of attacks against Muslims or, in the case of the Wisconsin Sikh Temple shooting (6 killed not including the shooter, four wounded), people who wore Turbans and were brown.
Wikipedia points out that "In the aftermath of 9/11, hate crimes against people of Middle-Eastern descent in the country increased from 354 attacks in 2000 to 1,501 attacks in 2001.
Zohreh Assemi, an Iranian American Muslim owner of a nail salon in Locust Valley, New York, was robbed, beaten, and called a “terrorist” in September 2007 in what authorities call a bias crime. Assemi was kicked, sliced with a boxcutter, and had her hand smashed with a hammer. The perpetrators, who forcibly removed $2,000 from the salon and scrawled anti-Muslim slurs on the mirrors, also told Assemi to “get out of town” and that her kind were not “welcomed” in the area. The attack followed two weeks of phone calls in which she was called a “terrorist” and told to “get out of town,” friends and family said.
On August 25, 2010, a New York taxi driver was stabbed after a passenger asked if he was Muslim.
December 27, 2012 in New York City 31-year-old Erika Menendez allegedly pushed an Indian immigrant and small businessman named Sunando Sen onto the subway tracks where he was struck and killed by a train. Menendez, who has a long history of mental illness and violence, told police: “I pushed a Muslim off the train tracks because I hate Hindus and Muslims… Ever since 2001 when they put down the Twin Towers, I’ve been beating them up.” She has been charged with 2nd degree murder as a hate crime.
ACLU keeps track of Nationwide Anti-Mosque Activity where they have noted at least 50 anti-mosque incidents in the previous 5 years."
And all of this was before the French attacks further inflamed the anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant fires.
So I am not taking your bet, but it’s not because the odds are not tempting. To be sure, any bookmaker would laugh at your 10-to-1 price since based on what happened in the years since 9/11, the odds should be a lot higher the other way.
No, I’m not taking your bet because betting on human lives like that is disgusting.
Did you not see the procedure on how Syrian refugees are vetted?
Tell you what: Vet prospective gun owners as thoroughly as Syrian refugees are being vetted and a lot of people in favor of gun control would be fine with that.
Funny to see all these self-professed Christians shitting all over the modern-day equivalent of Samaritans. Almost like they can’t be assed to actually act on anything their self-claimed God actually fucking said.
My GOD! That would actually require them to do something DIFFICULT and COURAGEOUS instead of simply coasting by on what American culture calls Christianity
I forgot to add the parts about unwed pregnant teenagers coming here to have anchor babies, too.
Anyway, in other news, Jeb Bush blames Obama forgetting us into a quagmire.
