Your correspondent included the link only for those who might otherwise imagine that I am making shit up. No suggestion is offered that you might want to read Mr. Bollings analysis of the problem, or, worse still, his proposed solution.
I keep waiting for some right wing nut job to suggest we set up some death camps in the middle east complete with Zyclon B to wipe out ISIS. This is getting pretty close.
The thing is, when people or politicians are making suggestions like keeping a database of all people of a certain religion, or suggesting a law that people of a certain religion have to identify themselves in public, it is quite appropriate to say they are appropriating Nazi ideas, because they are NAZI IDEAS.
Godwin’s law does not say you LOSE an argument if you bring up a Nazi comparison. In point of fact, sometimes the comparison is actually accurate.
Trump started this whole campaign as a publicity stunt. And now that these stupid fuckers are actually listening to him, he’s trying to say the most outrageous things possible in order to convince people to stop getting behind him. Only except they aren’t. And that has Trump in quite the quagmire. How the hell is he going to pull out and save face when he’s ahead in the polls?
Another possibility is that The Donald may be addicted to the knowledge that he can spout outrageous shit and a significant number of people will lap it up. Reinforces his conviction that he is a man of power and influence. And like many addictions, the high requires ever-increasing amounts of the stimulant.
This post nearly moved me to tears – I’m serious. It’s an observation that deserves to be heard by more people. Not to imply that something is wrong only when it would affect someone powerful – but when it would affect someone duly elected to what’s supposed to be the body that represents our ideals as Americans, that carries a special weight.
That’s pretty misleading. He told the state agencies responsible for refugee assistance to stop helping and “to communicate [the] directive to all local volunteer agencies and organizations that participate in the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program.” Most likely, that just means he wants them to be on notice that the state will not fund their operations anymore.
I’m scared to imagine that if these group of nutjobs represent 2016 and are far and away crazier than the group in 2012, what the GOP candidates will look like in the next election. Maybe one of the Kochs will just run himself, or one of those TV preachers that says we should kill gays.
February 28, 2012 was the point where Romney finally pulled ahead and stayed there, after 9 state primaries happened. If history holds true, given this wider and more open race, with crazier people, we won’t be sure of the actual nominee until March 1, 2016. We have 4 more months of this!
Remembering what happened with Acorn and what was attempted with Planned Parenthood it seems that losing funding means closing shop as those agencies usually do work on a very tight budget.
So Syrians will not get any help, as I commented in another thread this would mean that Abbott is mean.
Abbot is then turning the agencies into the Unhealthy and Inhuman Services Commission for the Syrian refugees.
I’m not saying it’s a good idea; I think it’s deplorable. I’m just saying Abbott doesn’t seem to be ordering private organizations around as was implied in the addictinginfo piece (at least not without some justification).
Having any state be actively hostile to your organization is a problem. And Texas is, well, Texas. I guess they come to Minnesota. Like the Vietnamese, and the Hmong, and the Somalis, and others. Sure, its a hassle.
