Are they going to be able to continue that for 4 or 8 years of the upcoming President Clinton?
Glenn Beck keeps bringing out the copy of “Don Quixote” that was owned by George Washington. Mount Vernon says, “uh, not so fast…”
Glenn Beck is as crazy as a duck on acid! What does he imagine he’s proving?
That he and his ilk are doing noble and daring things based on hallucinations.
Somehow I can’t picture Ted Cruz tilting at a windmill. Much more physically strenuous than his Green Eggs and Ham filibuster.
There are few things the Senate has done that have pissed me off more than this. I am (probably disproportionately) outraged by this.
First of all, they keep calling Obama a “lame duck” president as if they are using that term correctly. They’ll probably keep calling him that until people start believing it.
Then to keep insisting with a straight face that “the American people should have a say” as if the American people didn’t know in 2012 that the president nominates SC justices.
And then to have the balls to come right out and admit that it has nothing to do with whomever the nominee is – it could be the reanimated corpse of Ronald Reagan with Scalia’s head sewed onto the left shoulder – they’re not even going to hold hearings. They are not only disrespecting the president, they’re disrespecting the court and the American people. “Yeah, we’re gonna be dicks about it. What are you gonna do?”
Yeah, this I don’t get.
OK, supposedly Washington acquired the book the same day he signed the constitution, and these are the only things he did that day he considered significant enough to note in his diary.
OK, so…fair enough. I can’t think of any interpretation of that other than either ‘Washington didn’t have a very full day’ or ‘Washington REALLY liked Don Quixote’.
I want to answer that last sentence with “How about a cock-punch?” but that would be encouraging violence and unsportsmanlike conduct and not solve anything.
Seriously though, I went past the point of being sick of these obstructive pricks a long time ago. What gets me is even if they go through with their threat, it will probably have no impact on the November elections. None of the Senate Republicans up for re-election will lose their seat because of this childish and petty stunt.
Also, what happens if a Democrat is elected president and the Senate remains Republican. Are they going use this chicken-shit reason to ignore all the new president’s Supreme Court choices for another four years?
We should demand to see the book’s birth certificate.
Ben Carson - plays the race card for himself. Because he’s so popular with white Republicans? Because he’s running against Obama’s third term? Is he gunning (pun) for Fox News’s black commentator position? What’s the end game? Personally, I’ll go with "more delusional thinking.
Carson, speaking during a half-hour sit-down with POLITICO’s “Off Message” podcast as he waited for the results of Saturday’s South Carolina primary (he finished sixth out of six), laid out his views on racism – and his belief that his experience as poor black kid in 1960s Detroit represents the real experience of his people in way that Barack Obama could never understand.
“He’s an ‘African’ American. He was, you know, raised white,” said the world-renowned neurosurgeon, whose single mother worked three jobs – and occasionally relied on government aid – to elevate Carson and his older brother from the grinding poverty of ghetto life.

And Carson also says that the Black Lives Matter people have no business talking about racism, because only people like him have ever known racism.
I sent my Republican senator an email today telling him I would consider it a dereliction of duty if the Senate Republicans didn’t even hold a hearing on any submitted nominees, and I would remember those actions come November.
It was surprisingly satisfying. The credible threat of losing re-election is the only thing that will make any of them consider behaving less dickishly.
The final vote on the Constitution was two days earlier, so he was just waiting for the clerks to finish [Rob Schneider]making the copies[/Rob Schneider]. It’s not like he’d just come out of a marathon drafting session.
One wonders whether Beck is lying or whether he got suckered by someone else who told him the book was Washington’s. It’s so hard to choose with Beck when the options are “stupid” or “dishonest”.
Stupid Republican idea of the day? That’s easy.
“We’re ready, master.” “I’m not ready.”
“Yup, this is Washington’s copy of Don Quixote . . . of course I did have to get it re-bound . . . and replace all the pages with newer ones. But this is Washington’s copy of Don Quixote!”
“Now, are you interested in boats? 'Cause I’ve also got a genuine ancient Greek ship* for sale.”
*For the few, I hope, that don’t get the reference.
