McConnell says that Obama politicized the Supreme Court Justice nomination process when the President did his fucking job. As though the Republicans did not politicize it when they announced that they would not do their own.

“They handed me a Republican ballot and said they didn’t have any Democratic ones” at Precinct 321, Teresa Wibert said.

Last night, PBS NewsHour ran a story on the Tilly family of Fayetteville, North Carolina. The Tillys do not have a history of being active in politics, but various members of the family—both old and young—are being motivated to vote or work for a campaign for the first time by Donald Trump.

If you can put aside the fact that the Tillys are rallying behind Trump, this is a small but almost heartwarming story of a family choosing to engage with democracy. That’s also if you can put aside the fact that Grace, one of the central characters in the story, has large white power tattoos on each of her hands.

At several times during this campaign the NewsHour has featured video packages of voices of voters, profiling different families and their views on the candidates and how they have arrived at them. These reports have been presented without reporters’ narration. It is true that this storytelling style requires the audience to draw its own conclusions about what they see and hear, but we believe the audience is able to do so.

In this case, a debate about Grace Tilly’s tattoos has started online. As you can see in the comments section posted with this story, Ms. Tilly argues that these tattoos are not representative of neo-Nazi positions but are connected to her family’s Celtic religious beliefs. That is what she told our producers as well. Others among our online commenters vehemently disagree.

Not that particular Celtic cross, though (or Odin’s Eye, as Mrs. Tilly argues (which adds in a particularly virulent Nordic version of WS)). It’s been used as a white supremacy symbol for decades and is one of the official logos of Strmfrnt. Combined with the 88, she’s got no leg to stand on.

Which doesn’t mean that there aren’t several tens of millions of people whose instant denial of that kind of thing happening in our “post-racial” country won’t believe what’s right in front of their eyes.

Not to worry… Our resident lawyer will assure us that as long as there is no reasonable chance of a successful prosecution for a clearly defined crime, then it is perfectly acceptable behavior to only give out Republican ballots.

This should probably go in Evil Republican Idea of the Day. Alabama Republican wants to forbid people with children from getting foods stamps if they own cars.

But they’re still supposed to find jobs and get to them.
