Stupid Republican idea of the day

Jan Brewer, Arizona governor, surprisingly vetoed the Birther Bill.

Which shocks me … in a good way, but still … wasn’t she flogging this issue for all she was worth in the past? Or am I thinking of a different south-west pol?

I don’t recall anything about her being a birther. She was all about anti-immigration.

I can’t say I’m too surprised. It would be pretty embarrassing if, say, Mitt Romney, couldn’t produce a “Long-Form” birth certificate.

I think the whole law would fall afoul of Article IV of the Constitution, the Full Faith and Credit Clause:

If Hawaii says he was born there, Arizona cannot require additional proof of birth.

So, a member of the Orange County (CA) GOP Central Committee forwarded an e-mail with a “funny” picture of President Obama as member of a chimpanzee family. With the caption, “Now you know why no birth certificate.”

Yeah, funny. A real hoot. Best thing, though, is her “apology.”

“I didn’t stop to think about the historic implications and other examples of how this could be offensive.” Seriously? You didn’t realize this might offend, say, anybody with two brain cells to rub together? And you’re a GOP official?

Maybe the Orange County school system needs some assistance, if this passes for adequate outcomes there. Sheesh.

As I said in the Mark and Brian chat room this morning: She’s an Orange County Republican. Dumb is practically a part of the job description.

Here’s the story. She said she did not think anyone would be offended by it. How stupid is that? How insensitive? I find it revealing about her and the attitude of many repubs.

“I didn’t stop to think about the historic implications and other examples of how this could be offensive.”

Hey, I didn’t know that if I blew that dog whistle that dogs might hear it!

Apparently, Mitt Romney refuses to release his birth certificate. This may or may not be related. Also, Mitt’s first name is Willard.

I wonder if what she’s really saying is, “Okay. You caught me making a nasty little joke to my nasty little pals. Now my only way out is to play the “You’re Being Oversensitive, It Was Just a Joke” card.”

Or maybe I’m putting too much thought into this. :frowning:

That’s okay. If you average it with the amount of thought she put into it, you get the exact right amount of thought.

- YouTube Here is Maddow commenting on the takeover of municipal governments by the state government. Snyder, pretending that fiscal problems give him a right to take over local governments and install managers who have the right to make all decisions regarding the community. They were not elected. But Snyder can send in an economic team that can make all the decisions in the city. They can declare contracts “null and void”. They can sell off property of the city as they feel.
Big brother? How about a Michigan State Government dictatorship.

Democracy shdemocracy.

I don’t understand why you included the word ‘whistle’.

Is that anything like plucking chickens?

Sorry; not possible. We’ve all already invested more thought into it than she did, merely by reading and comprehending these posts. (Is curlcoat still around? She’s a conservative from Orange County; she might be able gto give uis some perspective on this woman.)

There was a very interesting column in the St. Pete Times about this. Basically the guy’s contention is that it isn’t that Republican politicians don’t like Democratic voters, it’s that they don’t like voters. Ahhh…found it:

Really, now? :dubious:

As I recall Floridian authorities can have a real hard time counting what votes there already are, there’s just no telling what sort of calamities could happen with even more of those coming in ;).
