Stupid Republican idea of the day

Where the hell is the damned “Like” button on this site?

Well, come on, they can just hold it until they get home.
And if they’re on a really long road trip, they’d better make sure they’re not offending the foliage if they brake for a potty stop.

Except if he is on fire.

Ted Cruz to name Carly Fiorina as his VP pick.

To extend this hijack juuuust one post more – I wouldn’t be surprised or upset if it turns out that there is just a tiny bit of self-censorship going on. If I was a producer at SNL deciding what to put on the air – mocking Christians may get you picketed. Mocking Muslims may (remote possibility) get somebody killed. I don’t need that aggravation, and the Christian skit is plenty funny…we’ll go with that one.

A John McCain fund raiser, who is a former staffer for Senator John Kyl, has been arrested for having an active meth lab, other drugs, and bomb making materials in her house. (Not to mention access to these materials by two kids, ages 5 and 10).

The skit I watched - the one Pat Boone called “blasphemous” - was not mocking Christianity. It was mocking a specific subset of evangelical Christians and their self-righteousness (and callousness to people who believe differently). Worthy of mockery. And not at all blasphemous, since it didn’t actually mock God at all.

It’s a pointless exercise, almost certainly, but I don’t see anything particularly stupid about it.

“Wow, what a great crowd! Thank you, thank you! Pete the Rock is going to pass around some food now, some of you get bread, your neighbor gets fish, I’m counting on you to figure out what comes next! But seriously folks, how about those Pharisees?..”

Naming Carly Fiorina as your Vice Presidential candidate is stupid, in and of itself.

But but but… It insulted his personal narrow view of religion, and THAT should be made illegal because he’s special!

Republicans are still suffering from the delusion they had when they thought Obama was only popular because he was black, so they made Michael Steele the head of the RNC. Also the Palin pick was unabashedly an attempt at trying to get former Hillary primary voters to vote for McCain. It didn’t work then and it won’t work now

Conservatives never learn. There was a brief Fox News outrage when SNL did a skit a few years ago mocking Tim Tebow and how overly excited he was to see Jesus. Even Jesus himself told him to tone it down. These people will never learn

I don’t think there are any Democratic judges in all of Oklahoma so it’s safe to say this is a SRIOTD:

Oklahoma court: oral sex is not rape if victim is unconscious from drinking

This is such a cliche.

By this “logic,” they have to make fun of Jesus specifically to be comparable.

As much as your mental gymnastics are amusing, as usual, you didn’t stick the landing very well.

Seconded.

Which is why most of us reply to an adaher post with the exhortation to “Stick it!”

Good lord. In order to make fun of anything adroitly you and your audience must know a great deal about the subject. Americans in general know fuck all about the tenets of Islam, therefore any joke at all an American is likely to make to another American about the Islamic faith will be general as hell, because it has to be. You may be more specific as a comedian if your audience knows the Ten Commandments, or some such.

But they are all, equally, ripping on the belief system of a substantial group of people.

In fairness, even reasonable people seem to be saying that the blame lies not with the judges but with the legislature:

Now, is it possible that the Oklahoma legislature is also largely made up of Republicans?

Well, it’s probably not very good, either.
