I could swear there was a major US effort, years ago, to reduce lead contamination in everyday objects and surroundings.
Guess I dreamed it…?

Don’t you get it, sheeple ?! Obama’s so tricksey, he managed to fool you into believing he hasn’t been President for life since the seventies. This is why we need to make Trump President for life.
Yeah, this makes a lot of sense.
House GOP eyes cutting $1 billion in disaster funds to finance wall

(Emphasis added.)
Don’t be too sure.
Even if there hadn’t been a hurricane, taking this wall thing seriously is just ludicrous.
Build the Wall!
The sea wall, to keep the rising ocean and storm surges out of the city.
What about the dome to keep out the rain?
The water in Houston’s street isn’t safe to drink. Maybe not safe to touch. Tomorrow, day after, not safe to look at.
ANY time is a good time to roast that son of a bitch.
Stupid is as stupid does.
It’s Puzzle Time with Unca Mark (Levin):
Q: What do Aristotle, Archimedes, Galileo, Tesla, Newton, Einstein & Edison have in common?
A: Not one of them wrote about man-made climate change. Why is that? Because climate change is not about science, evidence, knowledge or facts. It’s about an ideology, which was imported into America from Europe
OMFG.
To state the sadly-obvious: Levin’s listeners find his argument plausible because they have no idea whatsoever of when any of those scientists lived. For all they know, Aristotle, Archimedes, Galileo, Tesla, Newton, Einstein and Edison are all sciencing-away today, spiffy in their white lab coats, in a lab somewhere in some super-sciency place.
And none of them believe in climate change! So there!

Having lunch with Frederic Douglass.
David Clarke has resigned as Sheriff of Milwaukee County. I wonder what position he will fill in the Trump administration.

New footage of a focus group has been shown on MSNBC recently; it’s made up of Trump voters and Clinton voters. At one point the moderator asks the members to briefly state their impression of Robert Mueller–and to say ‘don’t recognize’ (I think) if they’ve never heard of him.
Most of the Trump voters say ‘don’t recognize.’* Seems unbelievable–but apparently Fox News is just omitting to mention the investigation, rather than bad-mouthing it.
*There is video from the focus group in several places, and I’m still looking for the “comment on Mueller” bit. I’ll add a link that covers just that when I find it.
From the focus group:
…of course he won’t resign (yet).
Maybe he was just joking around, as has been posited for this cop?
Steve King: Immigrant children should turn in their parents to immigration officials.
Reminds me of the good ol’ days of Communism when kids were expected to turn in their parents for traitorous speech.
I didn’t even think we had Confederate statues in SW Mo. It’s not like the secession actually went through. Well, I guess there is that old battlefield by Springfield.
_
Also, Steve King is a jerk, but that’s particularly stupid.
No sooner said than done.
“Report: Former sheriff Clarke expected to join Trump administration”
https://a.msn.com/r/2/AAr3RkB?m=en-us
I’m still really hoping he’s expecting a position and then it’ll get yanked, like back in the spring
(Sure, he said “withdrew his name from consideration”, but everyone in Milwaukee thought otherwise).
But this time he’ll be unemployed.
Hey, I can hope!
What follows ia a pure, screaming rant. You have been warned.
Apropos of the title of this thread, I can’t think of any Republican/Trump idea that 1) isn’t stupid and 2) pretends to give a fuck about the good of the country. As I flipped through the Washington Post today, one story after another screamed, “Trump and Congress don’t give one rat’s ass about anything except tax cuts for the wealthy!”
In fact, there was an opinion piece on it:
“Republicans have only one idea. And Trump’s pitch for it is a doozy.”
I won’t summarize, but it’s likely to make your eyes roll back in your head.
And I won’t give cites for all of these (so don’t ask), because you well-informed Dopers will know what I’m talking about, but here’s just a short list of the destructive and damaging policies and actions that Trump & Co. are promoting: eliminating DACA*, harping on the stupid stupid stupid border wall, rolling back EPA regulations, eliminating protections on National Parks, engaging in a dick-measuring contest with North Korea and Russia, pulling out of the Paris Treaty, making an enemy out of Cuba again (cause that worked so well for the past 50 years), reducing advertising that directs people to sign up for Obamacare… and on and on. Feel free to add to the list.
Nothing but destruction, turning back the clock (I’m lookin’ at you, Jeff Sessions!), destroying people’s lives. Not helping or building anything except that MF wall.
And now Trump wants to spend $6 BILLION on Harvey relief?? Where the fuck does he think that money comes from? From taxes, you big orange doofus! I hope New York continues to raise a big stink about the hypocrisy of Ted Cruz. And votes for relief money because THAT’S WHAT GOVERNMENT IS FOR.
I’m about to bust a blood vessel, so I’ll take a xanax and go quietly away to weep in a corner while holding a cat on my lap.
*The group of attorneys general that is threatening to sue over DACA is doing it SOLELY to punish Obama after the fact. They say the Obama overreached and therefore the law is unconstitutional. Mother. Fuckers.
Get. Over. It.
So 800,000 students and workers are in danger of being sent back to a country where they have never lived over a grudge against the Kenyan-born Muslim uppity Harvard-educated black man. The Statue of Liberty must be weeping.
