“I’m sick of (healthcare)” struck me as ironic or oxymoronic or paradoxical or … help me out here. The “shot their wad” part, according to his office, was a reference to muskets, because Mormons are never vulgar.
In other words, they’ve discovered that threatening the ACA is not as popular a move as they thought it would be.
Instead of rallying their base, it ended up educating that base that the ACA and “Obamacare” are actually the same thing, undoing all of the effort that was put into confusing people.
Regarding “shot their wad”, I wouldn’t be surprised if Hatch had no idea of the derivation of that particular colloquialism.
The funny part is: “The story was published on 31 August on the website America’s Last Line of Defense, which calls itself satirical.” and was shared over 130,000 times, mostly by angry Conservatives who are apparently too fucking stupid to know they were sharing satire.
Reminds me of a bit last week where some conservative guy said, without a hint of irony “You know how you make a Conservative angry? Lie to them.” Their entire fucking media is designed to make them angry by lying to them. It isn’t anyone else doing it.
I think people satirizing conservatives need to realize that the line has shifted, and that no matter how stupid they make it, some jackass is gonna believe it. There is no such thing as conservative satire any more. There’s just fake news.
Are the Republicans now in denial about the complete obstructionism they engaged in during the Obama administration?
This morning on NPR’s Morning Edition, the interviewer told Jeff Denham (R-CA) that Obama issued the DACA Executive Order because Congress was completely uncooperative, and Denham flat out said, “That’s not true!” He strongly implied that Obama would have gotten plenty of cooperation from the Pubs (if he had bothered to try) and said this should have been a bipartisan law. He said that Congress will now save the Dreamers the way Obama should have. Grrr.
So this is where they start to rewrite history and paint Obama as an authoritarian, out of control, megalomaniac who arbitrarily choose to ignore a Congress that would have happily and willingly worked with him.
There is some truth to the assertion that Obama didn’t do enough ass-licking and dick-sucking on Capitol Hill, but I don’t think it would have made Mitch McConnell and/or the Freedom Caucus any more cooperative. Obama’s big mistake was assuming Congress were civilized gentlemen like himself and that they gave a fuck about the country. His bad. Who knew Being President While Black would be impossible.
They’ve been trying that brand of spin ever since ACA. This is nothing new.
But it’s also the approach they *have *to take now to find a politically safe way to do what’s right - put DACA into law and beyond Trump’s reach. You just have to hold your nose when you visit the sausage factory.
And meanwhile mosques were opening their doors to people - as opposed to guys like Joel Osteen who was still keeping his “prosperity gospel” doors locked.
