Stupid Republican idea of the day

I like to listen to this podcast on Alabaman mentality.

Can someone sum up the reasoning here (using the term loosely)? Thanks.

Maybe they’re thinking the allegations are fake news created by George Soros, and they have to vote for Moore to defeat the libtards?

Something something something LIBTARD TEARS LOL.

It’s tribal. “The Others have said something bad about someone in my tribe. I must defend them, even if objectively they have done something bad, because they are part of my tribe and defense against the Others takes priority over anything a tribe member may have done wrong.”

*… Your Cadillac
has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track

… What are you doing Alabama?
You got the rest of the union to help you along
What’s going wrong?*

I think that is a fairly adequate summary.

You could call them “deplorables” and it would be very fitting. They would even wear shirts proudly proclaiming they are deplorable. They are racists and it appears they like their men having sex with their underage daughters. You better keep away from their underage son though, that’s sick! :frowning:

What’s even sicker is that Moore molested someone outside the family.
I don’t understand why he has any support.

Perhaps that just shows how maverick-y he is?

I find this hilarious, for some reason:

Yep, apparently some people are smashing up their own Keurig coffee machines because they are upset over the company pulling its ads from Sean Hannity’s show.

Hey, if they want to pointlessly waste a couple hundred bucks that way, more power to them. What really bakes my noodle is that I thought conservatives were more the percolator type.

Icarus over in the concurrent Sean Hannity thread linked to this eye-opening and jaw-dropping op-ed describing how in some fundamentalist Christian cultures, mid-teen girl/adult man pairings are seen as not only “no big deal” but even desirable:

AARRGGHH!!! <runs screaming from the room!>

Mitch McConnell says he believes Roy Moore’s accusers, and Roy Moore should step aside.

If anything, this will probably add fuel to Moore’s supporters, who probably see this as a sign their guy must be scaring the establishment. But McConnell also said he was “looking at” engineering a write-in campaign to provide a Republican alternative to Moore. I would imagine Luther Strange is the most likely candidate for that. If this happens, maybe it will split enough votes off from Moore to open up a window for Doug Jones.

That reminds me of a quote from Dave Barry’s book Dave Barry’s Guide to Japan where he mentions people protesting Japanese imports by smashing a Japanese radio with a sledgehammer, assisted by a member of Congress.

This was, of course, an extremely effective way of reducing Japanese imports, the only problem being that it’s stupid, because in order to smash a Japanese radio, you have to import it. Some smart Japanese company is probably doing a brisk business over here selling radios designed to smash in a dramatic and photogenic manner. This company also supplies the sledgehammer, and perhaps even the member of Congress.

According to a poll published this morning, Moore holds a 10 point lead over Jones.

You can’t make this shit up.

But 4 other polls show the race as tied (close enough to be in the margin of error). So a write-in campaign on the Republican side could make a real difference.

Agree: the best shot for a Democrat would be for Moore to stay in the race and face a write-in campaign. The worst thing to happen for Democrats now would be for Moore to drop out.

Roy Moore’s wife is trying to collect evidence to prove that Roy’s accusers are being paid.

Which is why the GOP leadership is calling for Moore to dropout. With McCain going rogue, their hold on the senate is tenuous at best. With the old Christian right supporting Moore no matter what, a strong write-in campaign would be disastrous.

They are actually asking the Republican Governor to unilaterally decide to postpone the election till they can deal with the problem. One wonders just how legal that would be. “Oh, we don’t like the way the polls are going, Hillary might actually win in Alabama, let’s postpone the election till we can dig up or make up more dirt.”
