I just wish Williams had been a better writer. THE GREATER TRUMPS should have been a brilliant fantasy novel. As it is it’s just barely readable. William was the poorest stylist of the great mid-century Tolkien/Lewis/Williams triumvirate.
By far the greatest of the period was Mervyn (Gormenghast) Peake, who unfortunately didn’t share the other three’s fancy-schmancy Oxford credentials, only having gone to Art School. Of course, HE has a self-portrait in London’s Portrait Gallery, and Tolkien/Lewis/Williams don’t.

Peake is like Thomas Wolfe: a writer best read when one is a teenager. Both are great writers–I don’t dispute that! But both are extravagant and somewhat florid. And their plots tend to fall apart at the end.

He’s a Utah Mormon Republican Politician (as if there is another kind in that state). He HAS to say that. It’s in the contract.
Otherwise they rescind the baptism of your ancestors and kick them out of heaven.
Yeah, no doubt. When Wolfe killed off Neal Cassaday at near the end of Acid Test , it all just seemed to collapse.

Athletes from North Korea and South Korea marching under the same flag in the opening ceremonies of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games was a significant symbolic moment for many. Vice President Mike Pence, in Pyeongchang to lead the U.S. delegation, was not impressed, however.
The Washington Post’s Anna Fifield described “huge cheers” when the unified Korea team entered the stadium on Friday. She also said it appeared that everyone in the VP’s box stood to acknowledge the moment — except Pence and his wife, Karen.
