You know, now that you mention it, feral courts do sound like a good idea.

Oh fuck no. You think raccoons are a problem, once you get judges… you can’t keep them out of anyplace, they know skilled break-in artists who find it worth doing them a favour, and I don’t know if you’ve ever seen an appellate court judge eat, but they can really pack it away. Bailiffs in the tub every morning, you turn on the lights in the kitchen and prosecutors scurry everywhere… it’s a nightmare. Exterminators won’t touch those jobs, we had to bring in students to get the hygiene levels low enough that they voluntarily left. Keep the courts where they belong.
And I went back and edited that. 
McConnell would fill a Supreme Court seatin 2020 if a vacancy arises, because apparently what he meant to say is that you don’t get to fill a seat in an election year if the Senate majority is the opposing party, but also because there are no ramifications for blatant hypocrisy anymore.

I’ve always thought of Maine as one of the more educated and reasonable folks in the land, and if not necessarily educated, then certainly decent. Mainers, what is your Senator saying about you? Take your state back!

Maine has more than its share of toothless backwoods yokels; to meet some of them, just go a couple miles inland from the coast. I just didn’t realize they made it to the polls so handily.

That’s what has to be remembered. It’s also worth remembering that it wasn’t that long ago that Turkey and Venezuela were considered to be relatively stable democracies and forward thinking. Populism is a strong tonic, and ultimately, humans are barely more than talking monkeys.
