Stupid Republican idea of the day

Dude. The whole point of being a religious fanatic is to not have to think about things.

Yep. I mean, who are we to doubt God’s plan?

Long as I’m not sure, I’m still sane.

The Trump Campaign Says Exploiting Hacked Emails Is Free Speech
Lawyers for the campaign asserted in court papers a right to disclose “even stolen information.”

:smack:

Loath as I am to agree with anything they say … I’m immediately having flashbacks to New York Times Co. v. United States and the Report of the Office of the Secretary of Defense Vietnam Task Force, AKA the ‘Pentagon Papers’.

The precedent, pretty much, already exists.

CMC fnord!

Yep.

There’s pretty long-standing precedent that it’s one thing to actually steal the information, but it’s quite another to publish information that other people have stolen.

The Guardian, the Washington Post, and the New York Times all published stories based on the information that Edward Snowden stole from the United States government.

Ron DeSantis wrote a book defending slavery.

Tom Cotton claims the accusations against Kavanaugh were created by Chuck Schumer.

Lesbian, Native American, kick-boxing lawyer Sharice Davids is running for Congress. A Republican state committee member sent the following to a Democratic committee member:
“Little Ms. Pritchett – you and your comrades[‘] stealth attack on Yoder is going to blow up in your leftist face[s],” Kalny wrote, referring to incumbent Rep. Kevin Yoder (R). “The REAL REPUBLICANS will remember what the scum DEMONRATS tried to do to Kavanaugh in November. Your radical socialist kick boxing lesbian Indian will be sent back packing to the reservation!!!”

What in the HELL is wrong with these people? I know trump turned over some rocks, but just how much glue have these people been sniffing?

Democrats see Republicans as the opposition, and act accordingly.

Republicans see Democrats as the enemy, and act accordingly.

There is a nuance, though. Snowden’s information came from an agency operating within the government itself. The Democratic Party is not technically an entity operating under the aegis of one of the branches of the government.

It is kind of a narrow distinction, since the president himself did belong to that Party, they are a significant fraction of the government, and they were operating in the scope of a quasi-governmental function (election). If one perceives that secret service protection, as is afforded the major candidates, represents a government-level position, one might infer a reduced expectation of privacy.

But it still comes down to campaign finance disclosure: if the Orangetan’s campaign received this information without providing compensation to the hackers, that is an undisclosed contribution, possibly from a foreign source (illegal) and apparently of significant value.

^This. The ‘free speech’ defense doesn’t take care of the ‘campaign finance law violation’ problem in any respect.

By Trump’s suggesting that Russia, if they’re listening, should obtain those emails, couldn’t an argument be made that he WAS a part of the theft?

Idaho’s Republican candidate for lieutenant governor wants the death penalty for women who procure abortions.

Not that logic is actually part and parcel of that idiot’s regimen, but if he truly feels that way, then he needs to also extend the stance to its logical extreme: investigate every woman for every menstrual cycle to determine if a fertilized ovum was “aborted” and, if so, what caused it to happen. That’s just as crazy as what the jackass already said.

By the way, what little the Bible does actually have to say about abortion does not include it being a capital offense. But, hey, why point out facts about the Bible to the religious far right?

Ummm… where does he put the sperm donor in this scenario? Or does 100% of the responsibility belong to the woman? Why not just execute both of them?

I know these people have always been around living under their slimy rocks, but the ubiquity of regular and social media means that their insanity is out there for everyone to see. Now this is our world.

What about the man? How is he in any way responsible? If she hadn’t have been such a slut, she wouldn’t have gotten pregnant in the first place.

Ugh. Now I have to take a shower.

Yep. As I said, logic isn’t part of that idiot’s reality.

And, no doubt, some idiot politician is going to advance those very “arguments” in all seriousness, because, you know, the man “is a wonderful person”.

Finally, a dose of logic. But even an unfertilized ovum is a potential human being. Refusal to fertilize the ovum is itself a violation of the Sixth Commandment. Those who rape a woman who otherwise refuses to let herself be impregnated are performing an important Christian service. Resisting a rapist, at least during the critical part of the menstrual cycle, warrants a charge of manslaughter.
