Stupid Republican idea of the day

One hundred and ten percent humidity and the stench of rotting grapefruit.

For, you know, dealing with sea level rise.

The Hill runs a breathless article with the clickbait headline Mueller hauled before secret FISA court to address FBI abuses in 2002, Congress told.

Turns out it’s an opinion piece from John F. Solomon who is a notorious right wing shill and what actually happened (and can be ascertained even through the weasel-wording of the piece) is after he became FBI director the FISA court asked Mueller to rein in post 9/11 FISA abuse by FBI agents before he became director and he proceeded to do exactly that.

Used to be so-called “law and order” Republicans would appreciate such a thing. Now they try and use buzzwords like the headline to muddy what happened seventeen years ago with Google searches that include Mueller and FISA court today (most of that is bullshit as well, but that’s par for the course).

Which number is larger? 400 or 40,000? GOP Congressman flunks this 4th-grade math problem.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) insists that the 400 killings by immigrants are a bigger problem than last year’s 40,000 gun deaths, taking care to insult the parents of two victims of the Parkland massacre, even asking for them to be evicted.

One of the grieving fathers claimed to be thrilled by Gaetz’ fetid stench:

Give Gaetz some credit: It took $2500 for him to become a NRA whore. As reported in these threads, the Donald Thrump has revealed that his price is 13¢.

How much did the NRA charge to be Putin’s whore?

Dana Loesch: Send the NRA money so we can stop Kamala Harris.
Dana Loesch: Only the NRA Can Stop ‘Existential Threat’ Kamala Harris, So Give Us Money Now?

Nah! I don’t need to send any of my money; the Russians have totally got this.

Tommy Norment, the Republican majority leader of the Virginia state Senate, was an editor of the Virginia Military Institute yearbook which contained ethnic slurs and blackface pictures.

Vlad’s puta?

In response to student demonstrations at Berkeley, Michigan Republican and secretary of the Marquette County Republican Party Dan Adamini says it’s time for another Kent State.

It’s okay if a republican does it.

Now that you mention Virginia, it occurs to me that anyone here who might be invested in having a robust Stupid Liberal Idea of the Day thread is really falling down on the job.

Only if you quote me, who wants the governor to remain out of spite for the GOP. Otherwise, despite the “the liberals are the REAL racists amirite?” crowd, wearing those outfits is not a liberal idea.

That’s true of course, but having once been a editor on a yearbook with racist stuff in it isn’t really a Republican idea, either, if we want to be strict about such things. If this scandal and the ensuing attempt at crisis management were coming from the GOP I would expect to see it covered in this thread. For anyone lamenting that the SLIotD thread usually has to resort to the likes of what an imaginary neighborhood jogger might have said, they are squandering an opportunity.

Check the date. That story is two years old.

I just saw this posted by a friend on FB. I wonder why it’s suddenly going around again?
ETA: He also resigned very soon after deleting his Twitter account where he made those comments.

I’d be amazed if the Legislatures (and probably Governors and cabinets) of the southern states don’t currently contain at least several dozen members who can be seen in yearbook-photos in blackface.

“Decimated” is a term that comes to mind, for what we’ll be seeing in coming weeks.

Candace Owens, conservative talking head, says Hitler was “ok” till he started looking beyond Germany’s borders.

I would think the Jews, handicapped people, Roma, and homosexuals living in Germany at the time would disagree.

Candace Owens: Hitler Was ‘OK’ Until He Tried to Go Global?

So only 1 in 10 will be affected?

Warnings of Trumpism ‘Forever’ as Senate GOP Rams Through 44 Lifetime Judges in One Day

This is the stuff that really matters. While thump is tap-dancing in the spotlight and tripping over his own [del]feet[/del] tongue, McConnell is packing the Federal courts with conservative, anti-civil rights judges.

Terrifying!
