A thoughtful, sensitive male Wisconsin legislator has proclaimed that he is against divorce under all circumstances — even spousal abuse. And he’s got a message to all those ladies out there getting the shit beaten out of them by their husbands … “If they can refind those reasons and get back to why they got married in the first place it might help.”

Just now I saw this thread juxtaposed with a forum thread titled “Judge forces 16-year old Moroccan girl to marry her rapist”.

It’s interesting how much the GOP now has in common with the enemy it’s so eager to condemn.

That’s not fair: Barack Obama never, to the best of my knowledge, forced anyone to marry their rapist!
(Is there any other enemy the current Republicans give a rat’s ass about?)

Unbelievable. You know, when this whole birth control flap broke a couple of weeks ago I joked that the next step would be a law allowing religious employers to discriminate against employees that pay out of pocket because since they are the ones paying the salary or wage, they would be morally paying for the evil birth control by proxy. I thought it was just a joke at the time, taking the slippery slope to a logical extreme. Consider me flabbergasted.

Deuteronomy 22:28-29 - they really believe in traditional marriage. In fact, they think that consensual sex is so heinous that God would prescribe death for those that engage in it (22:17 from the same book). Well, in that case if the man no longer consents to the marriage, the women is killed. If the women doesn’t consent then marriage is a suitable punishment. If both consent, both get killed.

Actually, that reminds me, Romney supports a traditional definition of marriage and he’s a Mormon. Clearly not “one man and one woman” then, eh?

Though I have to say, he’s probably the best Republican candidate for the American people. Ignoring every aspect of his personality and public appearance and going by policy alone, he commends moderate healthcare reform (though I’d support more comprehensive reform) and rights for gay couples (though I’d support marriage as well). I can’t say the same, at least on a federal level, for the other three remaining candidates.

TN lawmaker says green policies are part of secret U.N. plot.

Rep. Rick Womick of Rutherford County, one of the resolution’s sponsors, said Tuesday that the U.N. created multiple political subdivisions and independent shadow organizations in a stealth move to work with towns and cities and undermine rights.

He said the “grandiose plan” is meant to stop economic growth and includes telling people they must, for instance, set aside wetlands or regulate against urban sprawl.

“It’s about taking property rights away from people,” said Womick, R-Rockvale. “People are fed up with government interfering with their lives.”

Womick said the Council for Local Environmental Initiatives is one of the U.N. groups worming its way into local activities — in Nashville, for one — to do harm.
