Stupid Republican idea of the day

The Republican senate candidate who just recently defeated Dick Lugar(!) in the primaries in Indiana equates Obama’s saving of the auto industry with slavery:

I didn’t know slaves were paid and had pensions

What I said was: Romney did not misspeak, he misinterpreted or misrepresented Bob Carr’s comment. (Bob Carr - the Australian foreign minister)

And this was debunked directly by Carr. Romney was not misquoted, Carr was, by Romney.

Yep. Even,Karl Rove, that notorious RINO.

Romney planned to have a $50,000 per plate fundraising dinner in Israel on tisha b’av, a Jewish fast day. It was cancelled.

Romney aide Rick Gorka told reporters in Poland to “kiss my ass” and “shove it” when pressed on Romney’s avoidance of the press. Cite.

To be fair, he did later apologize, according to the article.

When you start with criticizing the sitting President for actually returning your host’s property as agreed, it’s likely to go downhill from there.

That doesn’t capture the full stupid. Here’s the full quote:

“Kiss my ass, this is a holy site for the Polish people. Show some respect.”

Eh. This all we got?

  1. It was Romney’s aide, not Romney.

  2. The aide may have been exhausted or jet-lagged or frustrated by something, and lost his cool for ten seconds. Big deal.

Yes. In 6,168 posts, this is the only thing we got. It’s been discussions about Romney’s aide for two straight years.

ETA: good lord. Three. It’s been over 1,000 days of Stupid Republicans.

We know more about his aides than we do about Mitt.

Not JUST an aide…Romney’s traveling press secretary. This guy has a more-than-half-decent chance to end up the official press secretary in a hypothetical (but god forbid!) Romney White House. Won’t that be fun?

ETA: Well, had

This thread is about stupid Republicans, not just stupid Romney. Romney’s aide, one assumes, is a Republican. Certainly he is very, very stupid. Telling the press to “kiss my ass” is never smart.

Losing your cool even for ten seconds can be the difference between losing and winning. Just ask Howard Dean. (Who, incidentally, didn’t actually even lose his cool–just an out of context five second snippet from a rally made it seem like he did.)

Edit: Sinaptics is correct: there’s more to the stupid than just telling the international press off.

I think you guys are overreacting.

If it were an isolated event, sure. But as part of the gallery of gaffes that is the Romney International Relations Audition Junket, it’s a piece of the puzzle.

Romney has aides? Does Chick-Fil-A know about this?

You’ve been on this board for the same 12 years and you still have to ask?

On a related note, I was just reading a Times column by well-known liberal Hugo Rifkind in which he says that he hopes Romney is “just a tactless wacko” because the alternative is worse. Seriously, I’ve yet to see anything in any UK media that has portrayed Romney in a positive light, and the conservative papers are being harsher than the liberal ones.

Indictment pending.

Speaking very broadly (so as to avoid micro-listing the hell out of the thread), here are the primary elements of the SRIotD thread:
[ol]
[li]Actual, straight-out stupid Republican ideas[/li][li]Stupid things said or done by purported members of the Republican party (incl. Tea partiers, etc.)[/li][li]Gaffes and schadenfreude-inspiring mistakes [/li][li]General banter[/li][li]Cat calls that belong in the SLIotD thread (but the short bus broke down)[/li][li]Examples of Republican hypocricy[/li][li]Items that upon closer examination aren’t as dumb as they first seemed[/li][li]Examples of racism, birtherism, and other failures at rational thought[/li][/ol]

Must be a few more categories. Anyone care to add?

Not a category, but words – variations of “insane”. They need to be slotted into your list. Frequently.
