See, there’s the problem right there. This thread is chockablock with high-grade stupid. An overly simplistic comment that could theoretically be used to spark a deeper, much more nuanced discussion has no chance of competing with the regular stream of paste-eating gobbledygook we normally see here.
Wasn’t there something a thousand or so posts ago about paying doctors with chickens?
Oy. “Similar to estrogen” could describe any number of steroids, cholesterol-derived chemicals, and poisons that sort of mimic steroids, including DDT and chlordane.
The similarity to natural hormones is what makes them dangerous.

Even if that were magically true, if women really did have defenses that “shut the whole thing down” in case of rape, what does that imply? Why shouldn’t rape victims be entitled to abortions in that very unlikely event?
Even people who want to ban most abortions accept there are exceptions. However, some go further and want to downplay these, so they insist they can’t happen for some reason. Most people don’t react positively to the idea that women should give birth to their rapist’s baby, so saying raped women can’t be impregnated is a way out of the dilemma.

I’d have to disagree. I think pretending that we just need a few simple changes and then magical market forces will fix our incredibly complicated, amazingly intermeshed, and totally broken, healthcare system is completely laughable. And I do know a fair bit about it.
Yeah, even a tiny bit of research would have told him that many for-profit health insurance companies offer reduced premiums for clients who get physicals. They obviously think regular physicals reduce overall costs.
So is this the 10,000th post in this thread? Whee!
Off topic, not even a tangent, and I don’t care.
I’m not even a part of this conversation! But, um, people who self-identify as republicans or democrats are stupid. I’m hesitant to self-identify as American most days…what with all the stupidity associated with Americans.
Republicans have shown themselves to be a bit more stupid lately…that’s for sure. And with that, I’m out.

How dare you interject yourself into a thread you haven’t participated in just to achieve a meaningless post count. What’s the matter with you? Is your life really so empty?

I don’t see anyone saying that a few simple changes will fix everything (I’m certainly not saying it), just that it works for other types of insurance, might make things a little better, and isn’t completely stupid.

Beat you to it, did he?

Beat you to it, did he?
Beating off or not, it was an amazing display of vapidness. Benchmark shmenchmark, popping into a thread to say absolutely nothing other than to insult oneself is pretty telling about the poster. I browse Reddit a lot and see similarly baffling things there–people reposting other’s work and whatnot over “karma.” Good use of the ignore feature.
Hey, I got the 5,000th post in the Starving Artist/Joe Paterno comedotragic marathon. Don’t take away our meaningless milestones!
Well huh. I wanted to have that meaningless 10,000th post all to myself, but I was in a movie and missed it. Thanks everyone for the many contributions to my snarky little OP. I’m very proud!

Shouldn’t we also be thanking the Republican Party for all the hard work they’ve been doing in coming up with stupid ideas so regularly? It can’t possibly be easy for them.
Seems to be as easy for them to say or do something stupid as breathing is for most humans; maybe easier.

Shouldn’t we also be thanking the Republican Party for all the hard work they’ve been doing in coming up with stupid ideas so regularly? It can’t possibly be easy for them.
Like falling off a log.

What did you see?

Yo SRIOTD, I’m real happy for you and Imma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best threads of all time.

House Republicans Draft Their Debt-Ceiling Playbook
GOP’s opening move will be a “menu” of mandatory spending cuts for Obama to consider. Here’s what it looks like. This menu is more a matrix of politically fraught options for the Obama administration to consider: Go small on cuts and get a short extension of the debt ceiling. Go big—by agreeing to privatize Social Security, for example—and get a deal that will raise the ceiling for the rest of President Obama’s term.
Here. We. Go. Again.
