Wow. Just wow. South Carolina has done it again.

Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer has compared giving people government assistance to “feeding stray animals.”…“My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You’re facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don’t think too much further than that. And so what you’ve got to do is you’ve got to curtail that type of behavior. They don’t know any better,” Bauer said.

This is the guy who was such a Christian that he worked to put a cross and stained glass on license plates (he is the Lt. Governor. His case was thrown out of federal court due to that pesky Constitutional separation of church and state thing). Do you think he’s ever even seen a Bible? I don’t recall anything from mine that says “Don’t feed the poor, lest they breed.”

Bauer is undoubtedly the reason that Mark Sanford is still employed by the State. Poor, poor South Carolina. How much humiliation can one state take?

I like the Victorian patronizing, myself. Why, poor people just breed mindlessly, they just don’t know any better, the dear hearts. It’s up to us wealthy thinkers to make them behave correctly.

The quote also leads to unfortunate implications when you remember what the government really does with troublesome strays : they get actively hunted and culled. WWJD ? Kill off the poor !

And I know everyone there is just so proud that Joe “Let 'er Rip” Wilson kept his big fat mouth shut last night! I know I am. He raised so much money last time there was some doubt he’d be able (or want) to keep quiet!
