Why wasn’t I told? No one tells me anything!
Apparently it’s a matter of some dispute, and they won’t teach the controversy.
He said “unhinged”, if anyone knows what that term means, it is Glenn Beck.
Except he thinks he’s sane, so how can he tell?
What no one seems to grasp is that when he says “the Negro,” Bundy is referring to a *specific *Negro–namely Calvin Moore of Amarillo, Texas.
Except perhaps when it’s specifically traditional – the United Negro College Fund is still called that because that’s the name everybody knows it by, and, I suspect, because the archaism adds an aura of venerability; same with the NAACP.
Given the history of LDS, perhaps Mormons today are prone to be oversensitive about anything that might associate them with racism.
Not without a capital N, at the very least. That usage was created to show respect, rather than derision, for the race.
Flashing on an old ep of Happy Days – the Cunninghams have agreed to host the wedding of the black drummer in Richie’s band:
FONZ: So, you’re gonna have a bunch of black people in here, eh?
RICHIE: Fonzie, they don’t like being called “black people”! They’re Negroes!
San Diego’s Roger Hedgecock (several times a Rush Limbaugh guest host) has also been against Bundy. This must be the big split in the Tea Party we’ve been waiting for: between the Loons and the Freaking Fucking Dipshit Maniac Psychotic Asshole Loons.
I have trouble distinguishing between caricatures of the far-right crazies and actual far-right crazies.
Can you describe these people with wackier beliefs than they have?
Where’s the joke to be made?
How do you lampoon someone who is essentially already a cartoon character?
I think he must have said, “Let me tell you something about Monte Negro,” but the mic didn’t pick up Mon.
Ah, Cliven Bundy is Nero Wolfe, living incognito. I see now.
Which group does Glen Beck fit in?
Surprisingly, it now appears to be the first.
Don’t mock people for trying to be respectful until you can explain to a person in her nineties why “colored” is so wrong and “person of color” is right.
Not sure if this is a “stupid” Republican idea or not … more of a “Obamacare is bad even if we can’t keep it straight as to why!” idea.
These ads are running against Bruce Braley in Iowa. They decry his support of Obamacare. But why? Because Obamacare is a socialist mess that will destroy democracy as we know it? Because any politician who supports Obamacare is a secret Bolshevik who must be stopped at any cost?
Nope. Because private insurance companies stand to make “billions” from Obamacare.
Bwuh? From the GOP/job creator/big business point of view, wouldn’t that be a good thing? And how does the ACA’s gift of big profits to insurance companies square with the GOP bullet point of “socialist Obamacare!”? These Republicans can’t even figure out why they hate the ACA so much … they just do.
(Okay, okay … they’re actually attacking Braley for taking contributions from insurance companies, then helping them make money by supporting the ACA. But it’s still a hoot to see Republicans now attacking Obamacare on the grounds it’s going to make private industry too much money. Socialism! Communism! Destruction of the markets! Oh, wait…)
And now back to your regularly scheduled Cliven Bundy racistpalooza…
And Rachel Maddow, probably among others, is pointing out on her show that his racist views should hardly come as a surprise, since his rants about county sheriffs being superior to federal authorities have their roots in the days when local sheriffs bravely stood up to the meddling Feds who were trying to enforce civil rights laws.
Another reason Bundy doesn’t recognize the federal government became apparent when she interviewed the Congressman representing his district, who happens to be black.
Somewhere I suspect that some of the people who funded the astroturfed Tea party movement are starting to balk at the total shitheads that they have ended up with. Not because they are racist shitheads but because near-open rebellion against the Fed is not good for big business. So down the line comes a bit of a ‘knock if off’ message.
As for Bundy, color me unsurprised that yet another White guy on some sort of government welfare (cheap grazing land that he didn’t even bother to pay minimal fees for) is bitching that the problem with this country is that there are black people on welfare. This guy could have been living in Fishtown in the 80’s.
