Didn’t Sampiro debunk this story a while ago?
They did not, many of them, but the Obama Administration has continued them. And he’s been HARDER on whistle blowers than the Bush Administration. Unless you are one of those who will accept any excuse from the Obama administration for his betrayal of progressive principles. He’s fucking Republican Lite! Black on the outside, scared old white man on the inside.
I have to say, this whole idea of an “Uncle Tom,” like race has to have a direct correlation to political beliefs, bothers me. I understand the rationale, but still, it rubs me the wrong way.
Further, I don’t recall Obama running particularly on being a progressive (specifically progressive, as opposed to liberal). Remind me, please?
But Steve got written out of Genesis, for some reason . . .
Tea Party candidate for California Governor Tim Donnelly claims that Republican establishment candidate Neel Kashkari supports Sharia law. When even Darrell Issa says you’re a fucking disgrace, you might actually be a fucking disgrace.
The ironic thing is that Kashkari is running third among Republican candidates in the polls. The second guy in the polls is Glenn Champ, who’s running as the “Christian” candidate. Champ is a registered sex offender.
I don’t recall Obama running for office as a “progressive”. Maybe you voted for a different Obama than I did.
Come on. PROGRESS/HOPE/CHANGE ? Yes We Can ? That don’t sound progressive at all to y’all ?
Mind you, back then he could have showed up to the podium of every stump speech in an old bathrobe that wouldn’t quite close, scratch his balls, say “Let me be clear : I’m not W Bush. Thank you, good night” and he’d have had a pretty unbeatable head start in the race :). But be that as it may, he did campaign, and he did campaign as a progressive and a reformer in 2004.
That he ultimately failed to be one in most respects (ACA being a notable exception) is not entirely his fault as he did have to contend with the most bitch-slappable Congress in living memory. But it’s still true that he didn’t drive very far left from his predecessor in office, disappointing many of his erstwhile supporters. Making the apoplectic RADICAL SOSHULEEST!1 Foxcon crapalooza all the more ironic.
Whom I find more trustworthy than second hand quotes of unnamed Chase employees.
Chase may be citing Chokepoint when closing personal accounts, but that does not mean they are required by the program to do so. It could just mean they have decided to kill two birds with one stone and get rid of small unprofitable accounts and discredit a person determined to stop abuses by the financial industry.
I love the way Republicans are outraged that up to 40 people may have died because of long waits at the VA, while they turn down Medicaid for millions of their citizens in the states they control, and devote all their energy to repealing the ACA, with nothing to replace it.
Maybe she wanted the weathermen to ask Obama about the climate in Benghazi?
- He promised greater transparency in government, instead we got whistlebower witch hunts and NSA shenanigans
- He promised to put an end to the big banks’ financial shenanigans, instead we got “too big to prosecute”
- He promised to help Americans who were losing their homes in the collapse of the housing bubble burst, the agency he set up did very little and permitted banks to continue with shitty practices like dual tracking (where they supposedly worked with families to keep them in their homes and at that same time proceeded with eviction proceedings
- He did jack shit to end the drone program. He LURVES the drone program.
- He tried to end Guantanamo, but after initial resistance from Republicans, gave up on it
- He has made sporadic noises about raising the minimum wage, but not a lot of sustained effort has been made
- He makes noises about helping out with unemployment, but has done little or nothing along those lines
- He famously promised to not take a dime from Super PACs. Bwahahahahahahaha! (Hint: he took a lot more than a dime.)
- He promised to protect Social Security but has repeatedly floated a “grand bargain” that would involve making cuts on it
Now you may argue that he was stymied by our Stupid Republican House but the fact is, he has not made a lot of EFFORT along these lines. The only place where we’ve seen a sustained effort was on health reform. That worked out well! Too bad about … oh, everything else.
Well, gee, what was different about the circumstances during the passage of Obamacare, versus everything that followed? Do you think it was just a coincidence that Democrats controlled both houses when the vote for the PPACA was taken? Or was it just the EFFORT Obama expended, and if he just expended more EFFORT on the other issues you listed, more would have been accomplished?
They had their fingers crossed, duh.
I would be OK with him trying. I understand the Republicans are obstructionists, but man, he mostly seems to be content to make mouth noises and do nothing of substance. The Republicans have voted 40 times in the House to repeal Obamacare. They’re trying, you can sense a real intent to repeal Obamacare there, despite the fact that they can’t do it. I don’t get any sense of intent at all from the Obama administration. Especially on economic issues.
Hey EC, how about making your own “Stupid Anti-Obama Grievance of the Day” thread and let this one remain about Republican stupid ideas? I see you’ve already got the first 9 days of stupid lined up; you could take the first week off and still have time to become outraged about something else of which you ‘don’t get any sense of intent’ from PBO.
Well, it’s a lot like SoCal . . . i.e., the most boring place imaginable to be a weatherman . . .
Well, good point, Obama is not actually a Republican … he just governs like one.
Wouldn’t have to go too far back in time to find a Republican President to make comparisons with. Let’s see, Obama here, Bush over there. Hmmmm. Well, for one thing, Obama doesn’t nip down to Texas and clear brush. Hands down, Bush gets that one. My man Bush is a brush-clearing motherf…(Shut your mouth!)…But I’m talking about Bush!..(We can dig it!)…
And Biden never shot an old Texas lawyer in the face with a shotgun. Nor would he, I daresay! He might bore him to the point where he might shoot himself with a shotgun, but other than that…
On the point of a vigorous and adventurous foreign policy, well, really, there just is no comparison. Obama barely managed to kill one brownish Muslim guy, Bush dealt in carload lots! Course, the one Obama killed actually did something to us. If that matters. Kinda think it does, but maybe that’s just me.
You could make a big hairy ass deal about how Obama got ACA passed, and many thousands of American won’t be so sick any more, but Bush arranged it so that at least one hundred thousand Iraqis will never be sick again, so maybe that’s a wash.
I could go on, but I’m sorta trying to stay sane and sober, and thinking about Bush makes me feel like I have to choose…
I think you are mistaken. He is there, in chapter one. Adam and Eve were created in chapter two. There was plenty of opportunity for perverse activity, what with two men and two women existing prior to the Fall.
Then everybody drowns. God R. R. Martin.
