Stupid Republican idea of the day

Rep. Doug Lamborn of Colorado has been inciting insubordination:

He’s a member of the House Armed Services Committee too, but so far no mention of resigning.

Way to support the troops, Congressman.

Alan West. 'Nuff sed.

That’s not exactly controversial. Obama is clearly ignoring military advice, even from former administration officials like Bob Gates and Leon Panetta. He is the man in charge, and I understand why he’s doing what he’s doing and support his reasoning. But I also recognize that there are big risks in bucking the military’s expertise, and that some generals might want to resign rather than carry out a policy they consider foolish.

Lamborn is now trying to pretend he didn’t say what he said. Why bother doing that, if it wasn’t “controversial”? The absolute purity of your loyalty is touching, adaher, but it would do you a lot more good to put country *ahead of *party.

Even West is only blasting Obama himself., not inciting insubordination and arguably treason.

Well, yeah, the patriotic right always rallies around the Commander in Chief during times of crisis!

Except when they’re trying to throw the military structure into disarray by getting the generals to resign. But other than that, they’d never do anything to weaken the country during a time of war!

As usual with prudes who make such statements, you’re wrong.

Welcome to the Dope, cjhunsinger, fail to be a fuckhead.

There’s a pretty big distinction between telling generals to resign and telling them to disobey orders. Resigning in the face of what you believe are improper orders is pretty much what you’re supposed to do (allowing for the fact that your beliefs might be stupid.) West, on the other hand, should be in prison.

Honestly, I don’t have a problem with this. While I don’t have an opinion on this particular issue, I wish there would be more resignations rather saluting and carrying out stupid and dangerous orders. Imagine if the joint chiefs had resigned rather than ordering an invasion of Iraq. Resigning out of principle has a long and distinguished history and is arguably far more rare than it should be.

If only those who actually get fired on could resign…

They might decide to, but there is no excuse for Lamborn to encourage them to.

National Review Writer: Women Who Have Abortions Should Be Hanged.

And the men who knocked them up should be hung! Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk!

Does Lamborn’s nasty utterance come close to treason? Imagine how much Imodium® the GOP would have needed to consume if a Democrat had said something like that during the Bush-Halliburton War against Gog and Magog.

I doubt the advice was unanimous … which is win-win for the Republiopaths: they can make the same whine whichever way a decision goes.

Anyway, there’s a fine history of Presidents overruling their military advisors. Truman overruled a majority of the Joint Chiefs to approve the landings at Incheon in 1950 which probably saved South Korea.

Who’s advice is he ignoring?

Seriously, I’m asking, no snark. Which military advisors advised him to go in a different direction, to take different action? When I say advisors, I mean the ones who report to him now.

Not to mention (rightly) firing MacArthur.

Duplicate post.

What, you don’t consider Allen West to be one of the president’s military advisors?

I mean, the Washington Post figures he’s a shoo-in to run the Secret Service, so…
