Stupid Republican idea of the day

As far as stupid Republican ideas, 7th grade spelling bee champion Bobby Jindal proposes a Constitutional amendment to let states ban gay marriage if the SC strikes down bans.

It’s everything you say, plus I think Republicans are reminding Obama that two can play the game he’s playing. If he truly wanted to make deals with Congress, he sure poisoned the well by going directly against TWO bipartisan policies overwhelmingly supported by Congress at the time they were passed.

It’s a dumb move, both politically (domestically) and in the realpolitik (IMO). I think there’s a good chance this blows up in both the Republicans’ and Netanyahu’s faces.

I doubt it. This is kinda like Paris, a day or two long controversy with no lasting consequence.

It is smart in one sense though. many Democrats in Congress are VERY pro-Israel. It never hurts to divide your opposition.

So is Obama. Being “pro-Israel” doesn’t mean “pro-Netanyahu”.

As far as how long the controversy will last, we shall see. I’ll come back after “a day or two” and point it out if you’re wrong.

There is a distinction, but guys like Bob Menendez and Chuck Schumer don’t seem to make that distinction. Furthermore, Menendez isn’t even trying to be nice to the President anymore after the Cuba thing. He just accused the President of making speeches on Iran that sound like they were written by Tehran:

There are a few Democrats right now that are perfectly willing to give Republicans bipartisan cover on a number of issues. It never hurts to keep on feeding them red meat to keep them reminded of how much they disagree with the President on some issues.

You’re failing to convince me that this isn’t going to blow up for Netanyahu and the Republicans. Did you read that article I linked? You might be right, but I’m not going to just take your word for it – we’ll see.

I’ll predict firmly that this story won’t “blow up”. If it was going to, it already would have. The actual speech isn’t going to make it blow up more.

Oh, and I would ask all posters to please refrain from posting any stupid comments Bobby Jindal makes. It hurts my feelings.

The real world can be tough.

Fuck your feelings; no one cares about them.

+1 ^ Can we PLEASE stop debating with this ass clown in the Pit? The guy could suck the fun out of an orgy.

Tell Mr. Jindal to stop saying stupid shit, then he will not be getting pilloried in this thread.

And that is why I am putting all my chips on, “will blow up in the Republican’s face like a sack of ACME fireworks”. You are a perfect reverse barometer.

This whole traitorous little stunt with Netanyahu almost makes me long for the days where any dissent from the president was seen as un-American. Its clear the GOP have no shame and no values except “anti-Obamaism”. I fully believe Obama pretends to be for some things just to mess with those morons

Traitorous?

Can someone explain to me, a democrat, why this is even a deal? They have asked him to address congress. He’s gonna give a frickin’ speech. Why should I care?

If you read the articles of the Constitution, it looks a lot like the power of the Congress has primarily a domestic focus, while the powers related to international affairs seem to be concentrated in the Executive branch. While not strictly traitorous, per se, the action is impetuous and just pretty darn improper.

He was just re-elected to a four-year term in a landslide. Believe it or not, he was probably the better candidate. (I thought he was running unopposed until I got to the voting booth.)

My guess is that he’ll be handily re-elected in 2018.

or wrap his ass around a telephone pole on the way home from the bar

Every time I use the word “traitor” in all its forms when talking about politics, I do so ironically. I fully believe in dissent and not following the normal procedures of how things should be, only who’s right in the end matters.

That said, I severely dislike the GOP’s hypocrisy on it and will use it against them whenever possible. And I look at intent. Boehner’s intent is to undermine Obama, who I like and respect and think most everything he supports is a good thing. Therefore, taking such an unusual approach to invite a foreign leader to speak in opposition of official US policy, in order to undermine him, in order to do political harm to him, in order to bolster your own stupid constituents, is to me, traitorous.

It is worth pointing out that yes, Oren was nominated by Netanyahu, but he is from an opposing political party which is campaigning against Netanyahu in the upcoming election.
