Stupid Republican idea of the day

Rabble-rousing twaddle by a bunch of damned rebels, all of it. The benevolent rule of the Crown is the only legitimate power in the Colonies. At least since all those damned redskins and their peace pipes had the good grace to get smallpox and go away.

Remember, this is the guy who wanted to NORK the Constitution.

Before becoming a Senator from Alabama, he joined the US Army in 2005 and as part of the induction process, was required to recite following oath:

During Oliver North’s run for Senator in Virginia in '94, I knew a an old Texan conservative by the name of John who was a retired Navy pilot. North lost the election to Robb (who wasn’t exactly popular either–rumors of blow and babes). Wednesday evening, at the end of work, I run into John and asked him what he thought of the results. Naturally, North’s election came up and John talked about how much he liked North’s politics.

“So you voted for him?”

“No, I did not.”

“What–why not?”

“I can never vote for person who violated his oath of office, user_hostile.

Rendered speechless by that response, he smiled and walked away–into the sunset, IIRC

Kris Kobach: Obama Wants To Protect Black Criminals From Prosecution

Republicans’ “Internet Freedom Act” would wipe out net neutrality

Oklahoma State Sen. Joseph Silk: Gay people “don’t have a right to be served in every single store.”

To be fair to the Party as a whole

OK, to be fair it was the guy who called in who suggested it.

There are lots of crazies who call into radio stations all the time. If we held everyone accountable for what their listeners said… How did Kobach respond to this?

Yeah, you’re not helping yourself out there buddy.

I have been a supporter of net neutrality efforts, but i think that there are actually some pretty good arguments to be made for allowing ISPs to prioritize certain types of traffic, especially given the fact that some types of traffic are far more “urgent,” in terms of things like latency, than others.

I also think that one of the biggest problems with internet service is not the issue of neutrality or prioritizing packets, but the total fucking lack of competition in most ISP markets, largely facilitated by mergers and by governments (federal, state, and local) that actively discourage, and in some cases actually prohibit, the emergence of competition.

But while governments of all types DO continue to make it hard for competition to work, i’m going to support the net neutrality rules, at least partly as a “fuck you” to massive companies like Comcast and Verizon, which do everything possible to have their cake and eat it too. They make every effort to keep the internet closed to competition, but they then scream “free markets” when anyone tries to rein in their monopolistic selfishness.

One hilarious aspect of the congresswoman’s argument is in this quote:

No, you fucking moron, net neutrality is precisely not the government deciding which content goes first, second, and third. While it does involve government oversight and regulation, it involves the government telling ISPs that *they *don’t get to decide which content goes first, second, or third.

On the contrary, he’s probably just given himself another layer of armor against being primaried.

The NRA mocks Gabby Giffords for getting shot.

To ruthlessly fair, the mockery directed at being shot was the product of the comments. Not quite cricket to infer that the organization itself mocks Ms Gifford’s misfortune, rather than her political stance. They still ensucken dead donkey balls, mind you…

Ensucken ? Is that cromulent ?

This is not mocking?:

That’s from the official NRA Twitter account.

It looks like mocking her idea, which they think would not have protected her. I don’t see the NRA’s comment as mocking her being shot.

Rather than start its own very short lived thread, I present

Smart Republican idea of the day

Now I’ll read the plaque I’m dedicating to this day and these people.

“Here men and women from the Republican Party made some kind of effort to be not entirely worthless. On March 5, 2015, they made a small fraction of an effort not to go down in history as opposing everything that is just and right in this world, and finally stood against bigotry and injustice, for one fleeting moment, before going back to their usual worship of Mammon, sacrificing all other opportunity for progress on the altar of greed, the small wisp of power being used for good soon drowning under the desire for selfishness and consumption for its own sake. But here, they made one small step in the right direction, against a marathon of steps in the wrong direction. The faintest glimmer of hope soon swallowed by madness, a reminder of what the Republican Party could be, swiftly forgotten.”

Infratrastically!

Yeah, right. It’s kinda like, “Shit! We have ZERO gay votes, fellow bible thumpers! Let’s, uh… let’s beg the Supreme Court for some gay backing instead of gay bashing!” And I’m sure the SCOTUS will oblige.

Conservative columnist can’t mourn Nimoy because…Obama loves Spock.

You can’t make this shit up. Obama has to, HAS TO, come out in favor of breathing. That will rid us of some of these Republican nutjobs.

Boehner may be immune to Tea Party efforts to topple him because… Democrats might actually vote for Boehner as speaker!

That part isn’t really a “stupid Republican idea”, but I think it goes in this thread because of the general stupidity of the Republican party this year (and how delicious it would be to further outrage the nuts if it’s Democrats who save Boehner’s bacon!).

And read the comments. Even more delectation.

Gaaah! Why did I listen to you? Never read the comments! Not if you want to retain any optimism about the human condition.

Anyone who thinks racism is a thing of the past… just go to a news story on Ferguson and click on the comments.
