See, I never claimed to be so fucking clever. On this board, I am not above the 50[sup]th[/sup] percentile in mental capacity. I am just here to learn, spout weird opinions and correct other people’s grammar (and occasionally my own).
But here you are complaining about other people complaining. How very meta. You have nothing to offer beyond “what dorks”, which is fair enough, I guess, this being the Pit. You come off as being as whiny as the people you are foe-ifying, without, AFAICT offering anything of particular value in terms of actually addressing the underlying issues (feel free to quote such of your posts as prove me wrong).
Stacking more enemies on top of the enemies we are already dealing with is pointless (again, fair enough for the Pit) masturbation, without release, so, based on your attitude and use of divisive and demeaning language, I hold that you are still a useless bag of shit. But perhaps ‘luci’ is right that you are on the path to getting better.
In case you’re wondering why people might find you to be an asshole: because generally, people who use terms like this are assholes.
But to even consider them a “these people”, you have to buy into some really suspect assumptions. As I keep pointing out, “SJW” is not a term with any actual meaning as it’s used. You can define it, much as you can define “feminazi”, but the reality of how the term is used is as a cudgel against literally anyone in a general realm that certain people (read: assholes) don’t like. Is there any relation between the people brought up by various people in this thread? Any whatsoever? Other than that they generally believe in social justice? That they’re overzealous and/or stupid in their pursuit of it (according to the opinion of the person posting, which often completely falls apart under further examination)?
Nah. You’re just the only pro-Hillary, pro-Isreal, pro-BLM, pro-gay, progressive taxation endorsing anti-gun guy who hasn’t figured out that, when people complain about SJWs, they’re talking about you.
So people who use the term SJW are assholes because…only assholes use the term SJW. Doesn’t that seem rather circular to you?
Besides, there are plenty of people in the public eye who use the term SJW. It’s not just trolls on 4chan. I’m a big fan of Joe Rogan’s podcast, and he uses the term quite a lot. So does Bill Maher. Sam Harris, Jonathan Haidt, and David Brooks also come to mind. You might consider them all assholes to varying degrees, but I think we can agree that, asshole or note, there’s a qualitative difference between them and people who sling the term around on Twitter and suchlike.
If some of the posts in this thread are anything to go by, you could say the same about the term ‘alt-right’. I’m a lifelong Labour voter, I score centre-left in the political compass test, yet dickheads like eschereal are happy to blithely denounce me as an alt-right stooge because I use the term SJW. In the wider world, the term alt-right is frequently used by leftist activists to demonise people they disagree with. Does that mean the term alt-right is meaningless and we should stop using it? Or does it still have general utility? If the latter, why does the term alt-right possess such utility while SJW doesn’t? I mean, I get that there are some people (Richard Spencer, for instance) who like to pose as leaders of the alt-right and pretend it’s a cohesive movement, but the truth is that there’s no real agreement about what the alt-right actually is, even among people who embrace the label.
I’m not the boss of the thread, so I can only speak for the examples that I’ve personally cited. I can certainly see some commonalities. Authoritarian illiberalism manifesting as extreme tone policing is one. A tendency to equate speech deemed offensive to the sensibilities of minority groups with outright physical violence towards those same groups is another. A belief that only white people can be racist and only men can be sexist is a third. There are more, but that should do for starters.
And an asshole is an asshole: and the only qualitative difference between the people that you list and those that sling the term around on twitter is the amount of people that they reach. Joe Rogan? Asshole. Bill Maher? Asshole. Sam Harris? Asshole.
You appear to be proving Budget Player Cadet’s point.
You’re the one who started carrying on about giving people certain amounts of money and calling it “equality”, then called me a misogynist for having a problem with people who make up the majority of members in a particular area (based on my experience) being given “special treatment” in the form of gender-only events, publicity of all the stuff they do, and in some cases, grants not available to everyone.
So how about apologising to me? Or are only lefties allowed apologies when people deliberately misinterpret what they say and use personal insults against them?
Perhaps you should try thinking before you post next time? Or better yet, if you’ve got nothing constructive to say, or can’t say it respectfully, consider not posting at all.
Are you too stupid to understand how analogies work?
For what? You’re a misogynist, so I called you a misogynist. If you don’t like being called a misogynist, maybe you should exercise some personal responsibility (something anathema to reactionaries, I know, but you really should try it sometime) and stop being a misogynist.
Are you too uncouth to have a discussion without resorting to personal insults? It would seem so.
And you’re a contemptible peasant. See how calling people names based on nothing but whatever you feel like at the time works?
I object to being discriminated against on the grounds of my gender, which makes me a misogynist exactly as you having opinions I don’t like makes you an insufferable cretin (hint: it doesn’t, even if we might think the other person is one.) We can go around all day like this, you know.
So, like I said - either contribute respectfully and reasonably to this debate - or if that’s too onerous, then I respectfully ask you to consider shutting the fuck up.
It’s not equalisation if there’s nothing to equalise. There are more women in print media than men, based on my experiences and observation - and a huge number of women working in radio and TV, in front of and behind the cameras/microphones.
We’re not talking about mining or corporate boardrooms where there is a male-heavy gender imbalance.
And equalisation can still be discrimination if someone who would have got the thing on merit misses out because someone less meritous ticks more/better diversity boxes.
That doesn’t mean the end result is automatically awful and horrible - but it’s still discrimination.
…you are in the fucking media. if this is happening in your industry, then you can do something about it. Make a stand. Lets read about it in the news. Stop whining on a messageboard and go out and make a difference. And stop being so fucking precious. We are in the fucking pit. You are complaining about people “outraged over trivialities” yet here you are, demanding apologies and moaning about people being uncouth. We’ve seen the real snowflakes and the aren’t the SJW’s: they are you.
