Suggestion for a new vB tag

I seem to remember that you can do custom tags. I think this one would be handy, to let people have a quick link to the FAQ:

[faq]

…becomes…

<a href=“http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/
showthread.php?threadid=106617”>FAQ</a>

without the linebreak, of course. What do you think?

First: would you also suggest a separate tag for the other FAQ thread, and second: would these confuse folks, as there is a link to the front page FAQs already?

(Not dissing your idea, Achernar. I think it’s interesting!)

Yeah, I forgot about tha button. Why don’t we redirect that to the SDMB FAQ? I don’t think the vBulletin FAQ is all that helpful. But maybe it is. I don’t know.

And, uh, maybe something else besides just [faq] would be better, to keep it from being ambiguous.

Some of the vB FAQ is helpful, but the main relevance is with the two sticky threads, I would agree. Could they be added to that FAQ, so everyone can see where to look, especially those new to the boards?

Yeah, I think that would be the best idea. And I think the Master FAQ should have cross-indexed hyperlinks. That’d be sweet.

Here’s an example of the kind of situation this tag would be useful in, if it existed.

[gry]
[quack]
[parkway]
[missing$]
[pie]
[base]

Suddenly I’m trying to imagine just what a [gry] would do to a thread.

Igry reallygry wantgry togry knowgry whatgry yougry thinkgry.

[gry] would be convereted to a hyperlink to http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a3_251.html

[quack] would turn into a link to http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a5_071.html

and so on.

you forgot [opal]
