We had a brief attack of hot last weekend. I can’t remember if it was Thursday or Friday (the days just all melted together!) but we hit 104 degrees.
It cooled off rapidly on Sunday night, and on Monday morning, we were back to 45 degrees in the morning and an afternoon high of mid-70s.
For the OP: Get yourself a UPS or two for the computers. They’re cheap now, and will save you hours of aggravation the next time the power burps. They’re actually cheap enough that we’ve got three in the house - one for my computer, one for the PVR and VCR in the living room, and one powering the network equipment. The laptops already have their own internal UPS.
My apartment complex has no AC so I can’t use my computer during the day. Well, I suppose I could but I don’t really want to subject it to 90+ heat when I think it’s dying already.
But at work, we have one salesman who insists IT’S HOT when he’s already turned the AC to 72 and I’m freezing and wearing a jacket in a desperate attempt to prevent hypothermia and he says I should wear socks and my response is not appropriate for this forum. This is why I don’t wear my Hawaiian shirts to work. Or anything short-sleeve / lightweight.
Getting there. Often by this point in May we’ve settled in to the real heat, while now it’s just still very nice - a few days in the 90’s but mostly mid-80’s. It’s been quite a mild spring. This time next month we’ll be sweating like pigs and moving towards three digits.
Last week we had a sudden heat wave of about 100 degrees every day. Unfortunately that coincided with Bike Week! Now it’s just warm–it was even cool all this morning.
So, yeah, summer has officially started, right on time. In fact today is the 8th anniversary of our move here, and it was about 105 and I was hugely pregnant, so I sat on a chair by the door and pointed to where everything went.
I’ve had trouble sleeping as well. The a/c is definitely low on freon and it is also old, so I finally got a repair guy to come out today. I have to get some new components installed later this week. At least it’s cooler the next few days…fingers crossed.
It froze a couple nights ago. Some things have leaves and flowers. Some trees and shrubs are still bare, and plants are still dormant. I haven’t need to mow half of the grass yet, because it’s still only a couple inches high. Only half the asparagus plants have even sprouted, and they haven’t grown new spears in the last week. The apple trees in the yard have been flowering for 4 days now. No it’s not summer, it’s almost not spring. Yes I’m pissed because I have had to start crossing off plants I was going to grow, because they won’t mature before it freezes. My stinking lettuce has been sitting there with only a couple small leaves for about 6 weeks. I’m still wearing my stocking hat because it’s cold out.
Aaaahhh, my friend came over and fixed my cooler today. It wasn’t getting enough water. The bad thing about coolers is, if you complain to your landlord that it’s hot in your house, they can so easily shrug it off and say, “Well, this is Tucson, it’s only a swamp cooler, it’s going to be warm”, disregarding the fact that if the cooler worked* properly* it would work very well. So my friend got up on the roof today, replaced the spider, and now it’s working great. It’s cool in here! Yay! And my incredibly dry skin is thanking me profusely for the moisture.
