Sunburned in the MMP

Good morning - just barely! Been running errands, but now I have a chance to breathe. I took all my bigger pants to the thrift store, so I guess I need to not grow again.

Happy Firday!!

OK, now I’ve got a few minutes.

**FCD **and I had breakfast this morning, then went to Lowe’s for a new passage set for the basement door. When we got home, he went out to his office to start working and I went to the bedroom to sort out the pants that were destined for the thrift store. I also hung up the new ones - some of which will need hemming.

Yesterday we got a refund check in the mail from LabCorp - apparently they’d double billed us or something. So my first stop was the credit union, to cash the check and deposit some of it. Next stop was the thrift store donation center. After that I went to Penney’s, but they didn’t open till 10… so I headed across the street to Aldi and spend a big chunk of the refund check. Part of what I bought was 2 slabs of ribs which are slow-cooking in the oven right now.

After Aldi, it was back to Penney’s, were I returned some stuff I’d ordered - 2 items because I hated the fabric, and a pair of khakis because I bought too many of them. I was surprised how easy it was - a few punches on the register and my VISA was credited. Yay!

Last stop was the Amish market for sweet corn, green beans, cukes, and 'maters. Supper’s gonna be yum tonight! In the interim, I’ll build 2 meatloaves with the beef I bought today, cut up the poke loin into chops and a roast, and wrap the chicken that will become buffalo chickie dip for the open house. And a cuke-onion salad for tonight. I’s tahred already!!

It’s a gorgeous, cool, breezy, sunny day - I wish the whole summer could be like this, but heat is on the way. Dammit.

…& then afterwards in the farewell Fiesta (OLÈ!) fartfest; that’s a lot of effs, you.
Nut, with those hours, Imma guessing you’re cow-orkers are all green.

I’m alive! Yay! (Some days that feels like a big accomplishment.)

I still need to go to the drugstore. Hopefully later today.

I made quiche last night. No idea what tonight has in store…

Shady I hope it cools off enough that you can get comfortable.

Kids keep getting in, huh?

Heat has abated somewhat around here, but we tried the new pizza place last night anyway. It was YUM! They had a proper taco pizza called the ‘Big Juan’. :stuck_out_tongue:

No plans for the day. Retirement is so boring.

Happy Firday, y’all.

I’ve been running up[ against that for the last half-dozen years. It got to the point with Da Jungle that I broke down and got a cheap cell phone basically just for that. But slowly tech is catching up with our throw-backs – a buddy actually has a carrier who can send text messages to my landline. Its a really horrible computer generated voice but it does work.

Just because

especially since G4Y looks like -------- some other word.

Heh - I think they broke it with all their ins and outs.

I’ve spent the last 2 hours in the kitchen making cuke salad, 2 meatloaves, and slicing up a poke loin into chops and a roast. Now it’s time for DQ!!!

It was such a pretty day today.
We spent three hours at the dog park. It was a good day, no obnoxious dogs and no obnoxious people.

Had an interesting conversation with a Trump supporter. Agreed on some thing, disagreed on others.
It seems like every time I go to the park and have a one on one conversation it seems to turn to politics. Must be something about my face that makes people want to talk to me about stuff that isn’t supposed to be discussed in polite society. Religion, politics, and money. So far nobody has brought up sex.
Maybe if I was 30 years younger?

Ripple had a good time, played hard with a lot of different dogs.
I should have been getting some weeding done.

TGIF!

Irked, came home, went to the dog park, got some ribs and came home.

At the dog park this afternoon, Nelson got jumped by a bull dog on the small dog side. These two had played together in the past with no problems, but evidently, the other dog was having a bad day. We got them separated and everybody was ok, but I took my little guy over to the big dog side where he was safer. :stuck_out_tongue:

Howdy Y’all! The Fiesta (OLÈ!) was great! Lots of food and drink. We ate, we drank, we laughed. Our Seminarian and his spouse were beside themselves. They got gifts that included a “purse”, i.e. donations given by church folks to help with movin’ expenses and such. 'Twas a good time.

I fixed the car today… I think.

I was going to drive the MGB to the supermarket the other day, but it was making a sound. I determined that the fan belt was very loose. Today I fixed it. ‘A five-minute job,’ they said! Well, it took more than five minutes. It’s also a two-person/three-hand job. There’s a bracket that holds the bottom of the generator, that has a long slot and a round hole. Both the engine block and the generator were bolted through the long slot, and I couldn’t move the generator enough to take up the slack in the belt.

Fortunately, I have a took kit that has most everything I need for the car. Unfortunately, the combination wrenches seem a little long for the cramped space. (Or maybe it’s just that I’m not used to using them or working on cars.) I went and got my ½" socket set. It was almost too big. Anyway, I loosened the fore and aft top bolts on the generator. I unbolted the generator from the bracket. Going from above and below, I got the bolt through the round hole in the bracket and into the generator. Now I had to tension the belt and tighten everything up. This is where it takes three hands. See, the top bolts need a wrench on each end. That takes two hands. At the same time, pressure has to be kept on the generator to hold the belt tight. I got a small crowbar and enlisted Mrs. L.A.'s help to hold tension on it and the generator. From there it was just a matter of tightening the top bolts, then getting under the car and tightening the bracket bolts. I started the car, and it seemed OK. I took it for a spin, and didn’t hear the clattering sound I’d heard before. I pushed on the fan belt, and it seems to have the right amount of play. Maybe I actually did something mechanical that worked? Time will tell.

I just hope I don’t have to change a fan belt when I’m out on the road by myself.

LA John, good on ya and I hope the repairs last.

FCM, you didn’t leave yourself anything to do on Saturday!!

swampy, glad the celebration went well and hope the Seminarian does well, even if I’m just an old heathen…

Sari, if you need somebody to bring up sex…

Red, glad Nelson is OK.

Did the banking necessary and picked up a few items from the store, but more soccer and golf on the telly today. Arranged to meet several old friends for dinner during my vacation (if you’re in Boston/Halifax/Chicago/Denver/Rapid City, I am available)

Heading off to bed soon, no nappage so I need some serious sleepage.

It was a Monday of a Friday. But tomorrow is my Friday. Maybe.

Glad you fixed the MGB, Flyboy. That’s my second favorite British sports car.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and “fair” (as opposed to unjust?) out with a predicted high of 91 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. We shall clean off the back porch this mornin’, which shouldn’t take awful long as it’s not too messy but needs a good spiffin’ just the same. I foresee quality cee-mint pond time this afternoon. Any need to feed will be via forage. There are all kinds of sammich makin’s and chips available, so starvation will not be a problem.

Flyboy yay for fixin’ the wheelz! I am impressed. Then again, I have next to zero mechanical ability, so it does not take much to impress me mechanical wise.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Good morning! It’s a glorious 57° to end our loverly cool spell. Heat and summer returneth today, which means, alas, the windows must all be closed again. Dammit.

Today’s big plans include laundry (duh!) and vacuuming - I should probably run the carpet cleaner on the rest of the living room, too. We shall see. I also want to get SIL to help me bring the shelves and love seat up here so I can get this room finished. Anything else will be spontaneous.

Happy Saturday!!

Well, no excuses. I have to mow the lawn today. But it’s only 8am and in deference to my neighbors I’ll wait until 9:30 or so.

Otherwise some general housecleaning is all that is on the agenda.

Have a good Sattiday all.

Afternoon all.

We have decidedly unfair weather today Swampy; lovely this morning, pleasant most of the time I was at irk, then started chucking it down just as I was driving back home to freedom. This week does look somewhat less soggy at least, so unless the forecast changes (again), I might finally manage the nice day out I’ve been wanting to do for months. I’ve signed up for extra irk on Wednesday as well, so hopefully that doesn’t turn out to be the only actual nice day.

First load on the lines, second in the washer, one more on deck. Vacuuming done, dishes done, SIL will take trash to the convenience center. Plus I made a bunch of ice. What to do now…

Happy Saturday!

It’s a cool and cloudy 64 degrees outside.
Supposed to get up 82 later.

I managed to sleep in a little this morning, until somebody outside was laying in their horn. I found out who it is and we will probably have words. There is absolutely no excuse to lay on the horn when you are picking up somebody, a little toot should do the job, or even better, call them and tell them you are there.

I have a long list of stuff to do today.
Lots of proofreading for my son’s assignments, on due today and a HUGE one due next Saturday. The one due today is a cover letter for a job he is suppose to apply for, not that he is really going to apply. I cannot believe the bullshit that is a cover letter, or at least the bullshit from the examples the book supplies. I look at them and think, oh yes! lies are a great way to start a relationship. Do people actually believe the shit they write, and do the recipients actually believe the shit they read?
I wouldn’t survive in today’s world, ass kissing was never one of my strengths, and I never did learn to appreciate having smoke blown up my ass.

For the big assignment, he has to develop a marketing plan to market himself to a future employer. It also includes a resume, a cover letter, and, of all things, a *Mission Statement
*. The examples in the book are … interesting. Oh yes, I want to get a job in xyz industry and be promoted to VP in two years.
I told my son his mission statement should be I want to work as little as possible, preferably from home, making just enough money to keep a roof over my head and food in my belly.
What he’d really like though, is for me to win the lottery and give him enough money so that he can live off the interest.
He managed to come up with some BS Mission Statement. It’s not the truth, but it looks good.
