Damn, them Kryptonians sure weren’t going for comfort in their swaddling cloth, were they?
They are indeed out there. I don’t know if he has the acting chops, but he certainly has the look.
Yeah, I’m sure soon enough, I’ll want in those tights, but right now, I’m still mad.
Apart from the S being too small it looks good to me. Except, that pose looks silly. I keep expecting somebody to say “this looks like a job for Bicycle Repairman!”
For the one or two who don’t know, that’s a reference to a Monty Python sketch.
I really like it. Actually, it’s probably my favorite live-action Superman costume so far. The '78 costume was decent, but I hate the blobby S-symbol.
It says that the shades of everything will be darker. Which I think is a good move; makes it look more like my favorite representation of the Super-suit ever, the Max Fleischer version.
It’s okay, though I think the Reeve costume was a bit better.
Still nothing to gnash any teeth over, tho.
uhh… he looks a bit like a twit.
I think Superman needs to have something of the Alex Ross or John Byrne massiveness and this actor doesn’t have it. And he looks a bit young. And I can appreciate if the actor doesn’t have incredible muscle definition, but couldn’t they get some better padding than whatever puffy stuff is in the arms currently?
As far as the suit, I don’t mind the darker colors. But the low-rise trunks look embarrassingly bad. And the boots look like they are about to fall apart. Finally, I agree that a larger “S” would makes that costume look better.
He looks too young, and I hope that that’s not the final shade of red. Superman does not wear brown and blue. But other than that, it looks OK.
Not that I’m defending the casting choice, but the youth, I believe, is because this is the origin story. Superman Begins, if you will.
You know, Smallville, only big, and without Lana’s crap.
Disclaimer- I can’t get the full pic to load on my machine and am going by the smaller waist-up picture.
I like the costume. The smaller S, the fact it looks stuck on and seperate from the blue unitard, the darker colors etc all struck me as retro but I couldn’t place just what period of Superman they were from. You nailed it. Now we can only hope they lift more from Fleischer and that Superman fights giant iron robots and a mad scientist with a death ray. They could use the same effects people who worked on Sky Captain (If the robots on Sky Captain weren’t a homage to Fleischer’s, I’ll eat my decoder ring).
I just never liked the superman costume. Even moreso than msot superhero’s, he looked like a twit. Except for the bulging muscles everywhere.
I’m totally wrong. Apparently, Superman Returns is going to take place after the second movie (thankfully cutting Richard Pryor out of the mythology–fun movie, bad plot). In that case, this guy is definitely too young.
Looks like they “Batman-ized” the logo on the chest. IOW made it out of latex instead of cloth as in the previous costumes that were worn by George Reeves and Chris Reeve.
For those who think that this latest Supe looks too young … bear in mind that when Superman first made his public introduction in the comics, he was in his twenties. He left Smallville as a young man when he headed to Metropolis. Chris Reeves was only 25 or 26 when he made Superman I. Brandon Routh’s also 25, and he looks it. That’s the right age.
That’s a good point. Except that the storyline of this movie is that Supes already made his debut, went away into space for a while and is now back after having been gone for a few years.
I do not mean this to be directed at you Nordic, but I really do not understand this. How is Superman ever going to get buff? He (pre-crisis) could move planets, and even post crisis is to strong to just go work out a Gold’s (well without drawing a lot of attention). When you can lift tons, 10 sets of 10, 425 lbs is nothing.
I like to beleive that is part of his secret identity. People look at Clark Kent and say “He looks just like Superman in the face, but he is too short and Superman is way more buff than him.”
Anyway, I know nothing about the actor, but I like the fact that he is skinny.
dunno anything about the actor himself, but Paul Hasenyager plays superman for a (rather blah-ish looking) film called Greyson and he looks very much the part of an older superman in the trailers.
The size of the S is OK, but not the fact that it’s a big honking rubber decal. The earth tone red is teh suxx0rz. If this is an origin story it’s OK that Supes is a young kid. This guy has the face for it. As a bald 40 year old, I’m totally jealous of his waist. I hope they can bulk up his pecs, arms & shoulders for any sequels. I think his hair needs more brylcreem too. You can’t do superman without brylcreem. The man of steel is a greaser, all traditional, Truth, Justice and The American Way. He doesn’t go for any of that ‘mod’ shit.
Alas, there is no such movie, just a trailer.
