I like the idea of following Bobby for once. By the way, Jim Beaver(former Doper) twittered quite a bit while filming this, so it’s cool to see how it turns out compared to his on-going descriptions.
The only reason they shouldn’t do a spin off Bobby show is that this one needs him so badly. That’s far and away the most fun I’ve had watching Supernatural this season. I mean, I enjoy the high drama and big themes, but the real reason I watch this show is for things like:
“You stabbed it seven times?”
“Five.”
“It’s SEVEN!”
And the exchange with Crowley. And woodchippers. That’s why I watch this show.
Kudos to Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loughlin, who brought back the fun, and to Jensen Ackles, who directed, and of course to Jim Beaver, who I would totally invite in for a shower and some ginger peach cobbler after he Fargoed any home intruder of mine.
Nice little paired callout to Drag Me to Hell: first, the boys’ monster-of-the-week was a Lamia, and then the cute neighbor woman asked Bobby if he’d ever seen the movie.
Loved this episode. When Bobby is standing by the woodchipper looking at flirty neighbor covered in blood and says, “Maybe I can come over for dinner some time this week.” Reply, “I don’t think so.” I think it would have been funnier if she had said, “OK, sure. Call me.” But still really funny.
Also the bit on the phone when FBI agent was at the door and Bobby was giving the instructions for the potion and Dean was following them as Sam was being strangled in the background. “Roast over high heat.” and Dean throws it into the raging fire. Hilarious.
Sheriff, “I told him to wait outside because I thought you had something in here you didn’t want him to see.” Bobby: “I do. There’s a dead body in the basement. But there’s also a body buried in the yard.”
I’m with DianaG. The writers definitely need to bring back more of the fun.
I finally got around to watching this! If I’m not careful, I’m going to lose my spot as the SDMB’s biggest Supernatural dork.
I liked it! I paid special attention to the directing, of course, and I thought it was very good. Very dark and lots of nice shadows. I kind of love the idea of the Winchesters being sort of guest stars in the drama of Bobby’s life. It was fun to see his perspective on things.
The wood chipper. Yeah, THAT’S the ridiculously gory and disgusting show I know and love.
Now, let’s just see if I can get around to watching tonight’s episode before they air the next one. Geez.
