SUPERNATURAL 7:01: Meet the New Boss

A reminder if you know it and an announcement if you don’t that the 7th season of *Supernatural *premieres tonight.

Before the episode, please help me remember last season since I haven’t watched it in repeats:

*Castiel is now God thanks to ingesting a few million souls from Purgatory

*Crowley is acting satan but disappeared to escape Castiel

*Sam has his soul back but he also remembers Hell which is messing with him

*Grandpa Samuel is dead (not that this is a deal ender in Supernatural)

Anything else worthy of note? Was there anything important about Bobby or any other character from the last few episodes?

In Cass We Fear. Indeed.

Forward with Season 7.

Pretty good so far. Last year felt like a relaunch; this year feels like a continuation of a storyline.

I wonder what has happened to Cas, then. He clearly can’t take it.

I do love Death in this show. Was this actor really up for Doctor Who back when it relaunched in 2005?

Thoughts?

Always good to see Death. (How often do you read that sentence?)

We now have two threads on this one. Have to get them merged.

Favorite Deanism of the night: “a kick in the daddy pills”.

If I were filled with leviathan, I wouldn’t feel so great either.

Castiel with CC saying “I am utterly indifferent to sexual orientation” is my new avatar.

Seeking out Mark Sheppard and Death were smart.

It started out great. I’m slightly disappointed that Castiel succumbed so easily. OTOH the season ahead looks good with the Leviathans.

OTOOH, WTF God. And WTF Larger picture.

Purgatory was a nice sideline. But it’s really time for us to learn

  1. what happened to “God” (and is he the writer guy?)

  2. What’s up with different religions? Is “God” the all-God everywhere, or just for Earth, or even more specific, Judaic religions?

  3. Death implies he’s in charge of death all over the universe - what’s the hierarchy in relation to universe - earth - various religions ?

Merged duplicate threads.

For that matter, what’s up with the other nations on Earth? Does supernatural stuff happen in China, Australia, South Africa, etc., because it seems all the angels and top level demons spend 95% of their time in North America.

Just proof we are God’s chosen people… (kidding)

There has been some discussion of other countries…Some of the minor gods they have tangled with have been imported from other countries (the orchard god from Season 1, the god from “Fallen Idols,” Gabriel must have spent some time in Scandanavia as well) I would venture there are Hunters in other countries, but there is not really an international network set up yet…

Death likes to eat and drink, doesn’t he? This ep, something in a cup and a fried dill pickle; last season, deep dish pizza.

Death consumes, after all.

Lucifer wiped out most of the gods from other religions a couple of years ago.

Speaking of Luci, I like the way he’s messing with Sam (or is it Sam’s mind pretending to be Luci messing with Sam?) but I hope they don’t end that plot with any sort of ambiguous “maybe the last two years really ARE all in Sam’s head, guess we’ll never know” attempted mindfuck.

Nah, it’s beneath them to pull that.

My favorite scene was when Castiel popped into the RV where Crowley was watching TV and trying to enjoy a glass of scotch, whiskey, whatever. Crowley is resigned to Castiel smiting him and tenses up, waiting for the smiting. Castiel says that he won’t kill Crowley because he has plans for him. Crowley asks if there’s any room for negotiation, Castiel says no, and Crowley counters with, “Then I accept, graciously.” I love Mark Sheppard’s ability to inject humor into a tense situation.

I wondered why they got Mark Pellegrino to play Lucifer. His character (Luci’s vessel) was long gone by the time they fell into the pit, by which time Lucifer was possessing Sam. I’d have gone with a split screen of Sam talking to “himself” or another altogether.

Not just North America, but regions of North America which look like the greater Vancouver area, regardless of where they’re actually supposed to be.

I’m getting a real Lovecraftian Old Ones vibe from these Leviathan. Is Misha Collins now Cthulhu?

Probably because that’s how Sam still thinks of him. Also, Mark Pellegrino is awesome.
