Supernatural December 2 2011 "At Death's Door"

Jesus Christ, I hope not. The only thing worse than dead Bobby is ghost Bobby. That’s just too depressing to contemplate.

Bobby’s been killed at least a couple of times now, so even if he’s dead it’s not necessarily final. (How many times have Sam and Dean been killed by now? Dean was killed dozens of times just on one episode.)

I thought it was a good episode all in all, though I didn’t quite understand Bobby’s statement he had “adopted” two boys. He was a good ‘uncle’ to them and they definitely see him as a father-figure now, but they were both way over the age of majority before their father died so it’s not like he raised them.

While Bobby’s “daddy issue” was something you saw coming pretty early on, I did think it was interesting that none of his worst memories were supernatural in nature. Even without demons he had a pretty messed up life; in fact, demons may have helped a bit by giving him a purpose so he didn’t just become a bitter old drunk.

Right. Also, back when Dean died, they didn’t burn him either.

I know, if Castiel was around, he’d be back in 5 seconds. I think Bobby has only died once, though. Lucifer killed him.

Dean and Sam have died many, many times. They have no memory of most of them, though. Ash explains this in heaven.

My bad. I was remembering him as being stabbed to death when he was possessed once, but he wasn’t killed that time; he was paralyzed (until Crowley healed him in an actually selfless gesture [a lagniappe he through in when he had an IOU for Bobby’s soul]).

Whether he’s permanently, “just mostly dead”, or not dead, I’m pretty sure he’ll be back on the show. I also expect Castiel to return at some point.

I have some good news, spoilerish thought. It is regard to future guest actors, and so forth.
Castiel is returning in episode 17 and will appear in at least two more after that this season.
Well. This show sure isn’t afraid to kill off main characters.

That was pretty damned good - Jim Beaver is a hell of an actor, and his love for his boys came shining through in this episode.

I guess they have to throw us a frickin’ bone after taking Bobby from us. Apparently.
