When Fred Astaire was 81, he married a woman named Robyn Smith who was 45 years younger, and one of the first female jockeys (it was controversial in the late 1960s whether women should be allowed to be jockeys). One of Astaire’s adult child showed up for the wedding, two others didn’t.

I finally saw their wedding in its entirety after her death, and I cannot recall one instance of them looking at each other. I also knew, from my own teenage POV, that the marriage was doomed when I saw that monstrosity of a wedding dress; it was hands down the ugliest wedding dress I have ever seen.
