Survey: How do you feel about pornography? Please specify religion :)

Male. No religion, but not an athiest or agnostic either.

I’m not sure what the big deal is. Imho, adults should be able to view anything they want.

And porn is addictive, if you don’t think it is and you are a regular viewer(several times a week) I have a challenge for you: try to stop for one month.
Starting today im going to have this problem beat. And beat hard.
Jesus’s mother was a virgin when he was born. Lets be like him never get laid at the age of 33. You think Sex is bad and dirty. I think believing in myth is dangerous and destructive.

Female Pentecostal Christian and Regular Church-Goer

In and of itself, I have little opinion of porn. Like all things, it can become an unhealthy obsession, and that’s never good, no matter the subject matter. I don’t like it, I don’t use it, have no need for it in my life, but if it’s your thing, well, that’s your thing.

My problem with it comes more from the production side of it. Yes, people are in it voluntarily most of the time. But there is a lot of sleaze and manipulation and addiction going on in the industry, and that bothers me a lot. There’s a big human cost behind the sexy pictures that I don’t think a lot of people want to recognize, but someone ought to.

HMMMM!!!

I HAD a really good post, but it got eaten by the server…I wil repost when and if I remembr it…

Religion: currently interviewing

Part of me is repulsed by porn, another part of me is drawn to it.

Not to be insulting but, you just HAVE to wonder about the dialogue that went on between Joseph and Mary.

Joseph comes home and looks at Mary with wanting eyes. “Tonight Mary?” Mary then just puts up the hand and says “Talk to the hand 'cause the head don’t understand”. Joseph just lowers his head and walks away and looks to another day.

Porn can be fun in the right situation and I don’t think it is adictive.

Exception : people who do the illegal stuff (kids etc.) should be shot

Male.
Christian.

It’s absolutely disgusting.
First of all, they’re having sex, outside of marraige, with multiple partners, often including both sexes and a high level of ‘kinkiness’ - and a LOT of lust. Bad enough right there.
Second of all, people are WATCHING them doing this. Ever heard of ‘see no evil’?
Thirdly, people are LUSTING while WATCHING other people sin lustfully. Bad thing.
Fourthly, a lot of people watch it and then MASTURBATE - while FANTASING about the woman/man they’ve just seen on the screen. As in, SEVERELY defiling themselves AND the person in the pornography. One could argue that both are defiled already but it’s not a great thing.
Fifthly, it’s addictive. It seems to me there are a LOT of people addicted to this, and in denial of it. There are just FAR too many posters on this board, people in my town… far too much of ANY group really that seem to be experts on the porographic film genre. I second the challenge to give it up for a month.
Sixthly, the fact that people need to constantly debate that pornography (and indeed masturbation) are wrong quite clearly shows there is SOMETHING not right about it.

I also deny the claim that it is healthy and natural, and the claim that you NEED IT in any way - I’m 16, right in the ‘danger zone’ so to speak where most people are THOROUGHLY addicted - and I’m living completely free of the foul stuff.
I for one have never owned pornography and I have seen some snippets of the collection of a friend of mine who thought I would find it interesting. I was curious, and viewed a magazine and a video - and found them absolutely disgusting. They did not pleasure me in any way (and I’m glad of that).

I do not view pornography. I also do not consume any narcotic apart from the caffeine I get from my chocolates and Coke. I do not discuss the sexiness, or the sizes of the body parts of the women I know with my peers nor do I think about it. I do not like to use swear words, particularly to describe sex and anatomy - Biological terms suit me fine. I do masturbate and have been addicted to it for quite some time but unlike some I am not proud of the fact and am currently beginning to give it up (I have been clean for a week at the moment and am feeling no desire to change that). I do not think I will ‘grow up and accept’ any of these things as normal or a necessary part of my life.

There, I’ve said it.
Pornography is a sin and it would have

Um, that’s not only insulting, but INCREDIBLY stupid and misinformed.

Mary was a virgin. WHEN JESUS WAS BORN. Nobody ever said she died that way or that she was some person who refused to ever have sex.
She was a virgin ON CHRISTMAS DAY, 1, when she gave birth.
AFTER that she could have married Joseph. If they did end up together. I’m afraid it’s been a while since I read those chapters of the New Testament and it’s not a detail that’s given much space. However I do seem to recall that they had children which is surely a good enough sign that they did!
There is no good reason why the two of them would not have had sex; God has nothing against that. But I hardly think it was crossing their minds when Mary was having her virgin birth considering they were UNMARRIED, she was PREGNANT and he thought her to have HAD SEX WITH ANOTHER MAN OUT OF MARRAIGE (fair enough considering).
So yeah, my point is your joke is not only unfunny and insulting… but pretty stupid.

Also, to add to my opinion above…
It’s my firm belief that it’s hypocritical for adults to do one thing and say it’s not ok for children to do the same.
And that a truly moral adult should be able to have ALL of their behaviour mimicked by a child (excepting, obviously, the things that aren’t wrong but are impossible for a child such as having children!).
I wish to be moral, and do not wish to be a hypocrite.
Which is why pornography is firmly OUT.

Excuse me Ssarl the happy Martian, you are a self-proclaimed 16 year old Christian calling grown adults in this forum sinful because they indulge in something that is their given right. I beg your pardon, but I could not get a certain geometric shape out of my head while reading your posts. Anyone guess what that shape is???
SQUARE
As this is IMHO, you of course are allowed to type in your opinions about anything, but YOU, young grasshopper, are riding the fringes of proselytizing. I am sure someone may be along soon and will be a little less discreet than I. I hope they don’t taint your purity. :wally

Ssarl, I need some clarification on this month challenge. Are you saying all us sinners should quit watching porn for a month, or quit masturbating for a month, or quit having orgasms all together for a month?

Ssarl, part of growing up is realizing other people are entitled to have their own beliefs without being critisized by young, immature people such as yourself.

perfect world buffer off

I forget you are 16. So you are absolutely correct all of these people expressing their religious affiliations or lack there of are sinners and the fact that they watch porn and possibly enjoy it must mean that satan himself has a hold on them, so they surly will be sloughed off the the darkest reaches of hell for even thinking impure thoughts.

**You don’t live in Salem Massachusetts do you?

We’re having a witch trial soon, you may enjoy it. We are going to a local sinners house. She is young (like you) and unwed. But she is living in sin because she has HBO and regularly watches the Soprano’s. I hear she has taped all the Sex in the City episodes as well. So we will have to confiscate all of those and burn them, with her of course…

Wanna go?

Non-evangelical Born Again.

It’s not my call what other’s do, that’s between them and God.

Personally, I feel that Pornography reflects the intent of the viewer, assuming that no harm was done in producing it, nor any laws broken. If people view it with intent to harm, or to degrade, or to cheat, or to break laws, then it’s a bad as it can be. If they view it as an entertainment to spice up their relationship with their SO, to give their partner a little excitement, or engage in a little fantasy time, then I see no harm in it.

I see no wrong in having a little fantasy in one’s life, as long as that fantasy does no harm.

I hate to say this but I’m going to defend the widgit.

The question was asked “what do you think of porn, and what’s your religion.” The dipstick answered and, believe it or not, there is no right answer so his is actually acceptable. None of us have to like it or agree with it, but beating him for it is a bit much. Especially if he’s just a trolling git.

Yes, I know we fight ignorance here, but really…is calling orgasms sin ignorance, or just opinion?

My opininion on the OP: dear Lord, whatever makes people happy. (with the caveat that a dangerous level of dependance on/addiction to anything will interfere with happiness.) Personally, visual porn does little to nothing for me. Written porn gets me happily prepared for creating a bit of my own. So, in general, I’d just rather have my own fulfilling sex life than observe anyone else. I’m self centered like that. I’m also a Christian.

I don’t get the logic of this. It is quite possible for children to mimic the adult behavior of sex, and even in Christian households, moral adults can have sex. Moral adults can argue with each other. Moral adults can use things Mnd moral adults can eat ice cream before dinner. Moral adults can stay up late. Moral adults can go the the park by themselves.

See what I’m getting at? The “someone please think of the children!” line doesn’t work here-- there are plenty of strictly adult, (a)moral behaviors that children can be aware of, but should not mimic, including sex in the marriage bed just as much as sex outside of it.

Woops, I deleted a whole line of my post. Meant to say, “Moral adults can use things like knives, guns, table saws, hot stoves, curling irons and blowtorches.”

I church hop. Yes, that means I go to all the churches.

As for porno, I think that all the women in them (guys too) are saying YES! Which is so unlike how things really are. Can you imagine young boys thinking that all girls are gonna say yes to them when they get out in the real world?

Oh give him a break phlosphr. He is no more adamant about his opinion than any of the “I die for porn” posters. Besides, he is just about the only one who doesn’t like porn, thus making this a far more interesting discussion…

Religion: Christian - Protestant (former Episcopalian now Covenant).

Opinion: I’m of two minds about porn. On one hand, I like it, it pleases me sexually to look at it. On the other hand, I hate it - and I don’t like the part of me that wants to look at it.

I’m like an ex-smoker, I think. I want the cigarette but I know they’re bad for me.

I avoid porn, now, as best I can, because it pains my wife to have me look at it - and, like I said, I don’t like the part of me that likes it.

I used to think that I was looking at consenting adults, too, until I found that one “couple” was in fact a drug dealer and his customer. She was posing with him in return for drugs. Not exactly a free will participant IMHO.

how i feel about pornography

well, usually it starts out kind of boring, then it gets a little interesting, then my interest peaks, and then it gets so intensely interesting that i can’t contain myself,
then i lose interest and go eat a sandwich
